Job Duties:  
  • By documenting passage of recreational watercraft entering and exiting waters of the county. 
  • By providing survey information and recorded data to the DNR Ecological and Water Resources
  • By educating recreational watercraft users to the threats of ecologically harmful Invasive species to
    Crow Wing County’s waters and conducting inspections of recreational watercraft for ecologically
    harmful Invasive species. 
  • By inspecting watercraft thoroughly and denying access to watercraft users who are at risk of
    infesting the waterbody they are attempting to launch into.
  • Reports to: Crow Wing County AIS Inspector Scheduler

Job Requirements:
  • Perform public education and watercraft inspection duties 
  • Effectively inspect watercraft for ecologically harmful Invasive species and aquatic
  • Decontaminate watercraft that have been identified as high risk following DNR protocols and
    specifications while adhering to all safety protocols.
  • Communicate effectively the issues of Invasive species and other County or DNR issues with
    recreational watercraft users and the public at large.
  • Distribute written information to individuals and/or individual property effectively and
  • Appropriately ensure that Public Water Accesses are weed and debris free while on site. 
  • Deny access to watercraft users who are at risk of infecting the waterbody they are attempting
    to launch into. 
  • Provide timely and accurate paperwork and communication to the County and the DNR.
  • Accurately and efficiently record, document and collect data necessary to evaluate: the spread
    of invasive species, the progress of control measures, the effects of public awareness, the
    response of recreational watercraft users to the project, and other pertinent research
  • Accurately record, document and process the administrative and field paperwork necessary
    for the operation of the AIS Program. 
  • Forward technical inquiries to appropriate DNR or County specialists. 
  • Communicate effectively with the AIS Inspector Scheduler regarding new infestations and
    developments in the field.
  • Follow Watercraft Inspection policies, responsibilities and procedures as established.
  • Complete other duties effectively and efficiently as assigned by the AIS Inspector Scheduler. 
  • Inspect all decontamination equipment at start of each shift, to ensure equipment is in a safe working
  • Safety equipment and job related tools are properly stored and in good working order. 
  • Safety procedures are adhered to and safety is evaluated on a consistent basis. Any damages
    to equipment are reported to the AIS Inspector Scheduler as soon as possible after equipment
  • Complete all job duties with a focus on safety and ensure a safe working environment.

Required Education:
  • Valid state issued driver's license 
  • Personal automobile with current valid vehicle insurance for use at or traveling to and from watercraft
    landings before and after shifts. 
  • Knowledge of and ability to effectively operate computer applications. 
  • MN DNR Level I minimum. For those operating the decontamination station, Level II Watercraft
    Inspection Training (completed prior to scheduled start date).
  • Attend additional trainings and in-services as required by the AIS Inspector Scheduler.
  • Ability to stand, sit or walk outdoors for up to 10 hours continuously, working in various weather
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, and lift or move up to 50 pounds. 
  • Skill in communicating with the public. 
  • Demonstrate commitment, support change, value diverse organizations and individuals, relate well to
    others and maintain communication.
