Job Information

• Manage product development activities for a single product, technical specialty/product function or process achieving both the short and long term strategy to meet or exceed quality, functionality, voice of customer and competitive edge requirements.

• Manage a team which will include direct reports, wire harness lab, electrical engineers, electrical engineering technicians, and electrical co-op students.

• Manage development of electrical system diagrams, schematics, and Creo Cable harness design.

• Resource planning and management.

• Assist in developing specifications, program plans, milestones, major reviews, schedule, etc.

• The Electrical Lead Engineer directs, designs, and develops products to meet the following objectives:

- Safe, reliable, and efficient products that meet customer requirements.

- Product design is capable of being economically manufactured and profitably sold in a competitive worldwide market.

- Completion of the development projects on time within budget.

- Integrate technologies in product and development processes

- The Electrical Engineer is also responsible for all other engineering activities, including sustainment, for all assigned products, as well as providing support to the Engineering Manager as required.

- Provides support to production.

Role & Responsibility

Employee Engagement and Talent Management

• Manage a small team which may include engineers, engineering technicians, and co-op students.

• Efficiently organize the major tasks and goals for direct reports and supporting personnel.

• Actively monitor projects and make appropriate personnel and resource changes to meet the project goals.

• Inspire, engage, empower employees to create a culture of creativity, innovation and timely development of world class products.

• Outline strategy for employee growth, development, and succession planning.

• Identify key competencies and skills needed to build a diverse team and evaluate and select new employees to achieve assigned goals.

• Identify and remove roadblocks on projects so employees can effectively execute project plans.

• Demonstrate how to build relationships across engineering and other departments to enhance collaboration.

• Recognize team failures as learning opportunities and coach employees through project hurdles.


• Support the ideation process to initiate new ideas for future and existing products for the Long Range Plan (LRP).

• Use innovative approaches to solving problems, engaging team, devising courses of action for the development of new techniques or processes, and refashioning existing courses of action where the opportunity for innovation is limited by a large volume of accepted practice.

• Foster a culture of creativity and support diversity of thought, innovation, and excellence within the department. Sponsor and/or or lead innovation challenges and events.

Strategic Engineering Design

• Drive the product development initiatives for a single product, product function, or stage in the product design process including preparing and managing the development activity and budget per schedules outlined in the Annual Operating Plan (AOP) and Long Range Plan (LRP).

• Collaborate with other functional areas and participate in product management and operational meetings on the development status of major projects to determine if products are ready for production.

• Identify and drive continuous improvement in the product development process, engineering systems and database of technical specifications.

• Ensure team responds to and solves field problems and warranty issues for assigned product line. Improve product quality, reliability and system cost through warranty and quality cost improvement programs.

Business Acumen

• Responsible for the overall financial impact of the development of a single product, product function and/or phase.

• Understands business implications of decisions.

• Aligns the work of the engineering teams with the AOP and LRP.

• Ensures team is designing for manufacturability and impact of final cost of product to the customer.

• Propose and manage the annual budget to achieve product development goals in North America.

• Always maintain a global perspective for new product development so that it meets the criteria to manufacture and distribute worldwide.

• Provide strategic leadership in the product development life cycle based on knowledge and history of the product and the company's annual goals.

Job Requirement

Engineering-Electrical – Bachelor’s Degree
7>10 years of experience

• Experience leading and developing engineering teams in the development of a single product, product function and/or product improvement/optimization effort.

• Clear understanding of the product development and validation processes and customer needs achieved through experience with one or more of the company's products, dealers and customers.

• Ability to build strong relationships with other functions of the organizations .

• Ability to develop and mentor engineers at various levels in their careers.

• Creative and visionary approach to projects with ability to influence innovation across multiple organizations and levels through technical aptitude and understanding of team's strengths.

• Strong capacity for leading change, dealing with ambiguity and providing creative solutions and influencing multi-discipline teams with data, scientific reasoning, and strong coaching skills.

• Basic project management methodologies and tools experience.

• Provide electrical technical input for product literature, decal, technical manual, etc.

• Work with electrical systems including: AC and DC circuits, engine starting and stopping circuits, battery charging, machine protective systems, lighting systems, mobile/stationary power generators and controls, interface with safety regulatory agencies (example: CE mark, UL, CSA, EMI/EMC), extreme environment equipment applications, and instrumentation for engine driven systems.

• Design, develop, and apply electronic control systems and control modules/hardware to machines.

• Design monitoring/controlling systems using devices such as temperature, pressure, level, and RPM sensors.

• Create and Document processes that pertain to Electrical System Development.

• Work with various systems such as J1939 CAN network, various engine interface protocols, RS485, RS232 and Ethernet wired systems and basic operational knowledge of wireless data communications systems.

• Ability to perform analysis of ratings on electrical designs, electronic devices, circuits, and systems to qualify component selection and validate designs.
