Job Information

Experience doing development testing with compressors, light towers, generators or similar automotive or truck/bus products will be considered. Hands-on experience troubleshooting pneumatic and electrical systems required. Experience wiring point-to-point electrical devices using schematic drawings. Experience in metal working (dimensional layout, drilling, sawing, grinding, fabrication, welding). Hands-on experience in an Engineering Lab environment installing test instrumentation, recording test data, use of computerized DAS systems and test report writing is required.

Role & Responsibility

Development testing with compressors, light towers and generators
  • Work with engineers and designers to assemble prototypes.
  • Acquire and/or modify parts at the direction of engineers or designers to meet prototyping needs.
  • Obtain parts and sub-assemblies from production stock, engineering stock or proto build stock and stage for prototype assembly.
  • Keep accurate and detailed logs of issues with prototype builds/parts and make recommendations to improve the overall design. Ensure this information is communicated to engineers and designers.
  • Participate as an effective team member in NPD project teams and maintain a good working relationship with other departments.
  • Build test fixtures to support R&D or NPD projects.
  • Select and install required test instrumentation to perform assigned test requests.
  • Follow test procedures to run development tests.
  • Ensure TIR’s are logged when failures occur during testing.
  • Documenting accurate and detailed observations of the failure including taking photos as part of documentation.
  • Proficient in understanding the test that is being conducted and ability to interpret results of the data being acquired. Ensure validity and accuracy of data prior to correspondence the test results with the requestor.
  • Assist test engineer in development of automated cycle/endurance tests.
  • Manage assigned workload meet project test plan/schedule and meet your customers’ requirements.
  • Training entry on processes and procedures.
  • Maintain engineering lab facilities, lab test equipment and lab fabrication equipment to be productive and present a professional image.
  • May be assigned limited or temporary responsibility for coordinating/planning or supervising other lab technician activities.

Job Requirement

Individual must have demonstrated proficiency in 10 of the 12 areas below:
  • Assembly of prototype units, airends or electronic control systems.
  • Troubleshooting pneumatic and electrical systems using onboard electronics when available, schematics and hand held instruments on prototype units.
  • Fabricate, wire and test complex electrical circuits using schematics and drawings.
  • Fabrication of prototype parts using common metal working tools/machines (dimensional layout, drilling, sawing, grinding, fabrication, welding).
  • Welder qualification for SMAW and GMAW process to AWS requirements.
  • Selection and installation of instrumentation required to perform assigned tests.
  • Setup, calibration and operation of DAS hardware used in the lab.
  • Proficient in understanding the test that is being conducted.
  • Ability to interpret results of the data being acquired to ensure the accuracy and validity prior to corresponding with the test requestor.
  • Independently perform a variety of component and product performance/endurance tests
  • Diesel engine application approval testing.
  • Lab test report at completion of testing with photos and notations of test equipment being used.

PC skills (Excel, Word, Windows, Windchill, Oracle)

Technical - Associates Degree or allow equivalent experience

5>7 years of experience

Four years of on the job technical apprenticeship may be accepted as an alternative to a degree.

  • Perform a variety of component and product performance and endurance tests.
  • Experience doing development testing with compressors, light towers, generators or similar automotive or truck/bus products.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy of data collected.
  • Ensure all work completed is done so in a safe manner and in compliance with company safety policy.
  • Understands R&D testing often can require iterative testing and data collection. Repetitive removal and installation of data equipment will be necessary.
  • Consistently displaying a “Driven & Positive” attitude in accepting work assigned and able to personally manage it on daily basis. When primary tasks have been completed or are on hold, individual must be proactive in seeking out other job related duties to maintain an efficient and productive work day.
