Job Description: The Coding Educator position is responsible for prospectively reviewing documentation of assigned physician's and APC's in order to validate appropriate coding and diagnosis capture as well as finding educational trends to facilitate overall documentation improvement education. Additionally, the Coding Educator is responsible for researching, creating, and presenting educational materials for Physician's/APC's, Section/Department meetings, operational leadership and coding that is clear, concise, consistent and interactive with regard to opportunities for overall improvement of documentation, selection of diagnosis, chronic condition/ACO, level of service and any other content that is relevant, keeping in mind CQ&E's support of One Mission, One Essentia strategy so that everyone across Essentia Health will receive the same message.

•Associate's degree in healthcare or business related field and 2 years of related coding/auditing experience, or able to complete within three years.

Or

Bachelor's degree in healthcare or business related field of study.

Licensure/CertificationQualifications:
One of the following required within 2 years of hire:
  • AHIMA credential (RHIA (Registered Health Information Administrator),
  • RHIT (Registered Health Information Technician),
  • CCS (Certified Coding Specialist), CPC-H (Certified Professional Coder - Hospital)
  • AAPC credential (CPC (Certified Professional Coder)
