Position Description:
Responsibilities for the full-time research specialist are to manage field research and extension efforts in the Extension Sugarbeet/Weed Science Program at North Dakota State University. Responsibilities also include: Assist in greenhouse and laboratory research and cooperate with private industry, USDA - ARS , other universities, faculty/staff in the department of Plant Sciences, other NDSU departments, other state, area, and county agriculture specialists, ag professionals, and growers in sugarbeet and rotational crop weed control. Assist in extension educational efforts, organize and present information at education meetings. Assist in preparing research reports, and revising extension publications and operating computer software. Use computer technology to update weed control data bases, enter and statistically analyze research data, and prepare reports in various formats. Use computer programs to design surveys and summarize data for the annual sugarbeet growers' survey or assist others with process. Give presentations at professional conferences and meetings, apply for grants to support position, and manage part-time employees.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Earned B.S. degree
- Knowledge and proficiency in Northern Plains crop production and management
- Experience in field plot research and use and maintenance of field plot equipment
- North Dakota Certified Applicators License or ability to obtain shortly after start of employment
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with growers and research professionals
- Completed internship and/or was a temporary laborer with university and/or industry in agriculture
- Valid U.S. driver's license
- CDL license (have or be eligible and capable of obtaining CDL license within one year of the start of the job)

Preferred Qualifications:
- M.S. degree in crop sciences or related area
- Knowledge and proficiency in sugarbeet production and management
- Farm background or relevant farming experience in mechanized agriculture
- Experience in agriculture research
- Experience in sugarbeet research

Physical Demands:
Operate and transport small to large-sized agriculture tractors, combines and implements, trucks and trailers, and plot sprayers. Physically able to perform herbicide and weed control field research. Capable of driving semi-tractor and trailer.
