Additionally, the position will work closely with product and process design to institute preventive measures and controls for product realization activities. The position will also participate in the development of procedures / processes supporting the ISO 9001 QMS. Up to 25% travel is required to support multi-site manufacturing operations. Plans, coordinates and directs the work of the Quality Technicians.
Participates in design review for current and new product development.
Conducts or participates in DFMEA / PFMEA.
Conducts process capability analysis and plans or leads variation reduction activities
Analyzes manufacturing, warranty and customer feedback data to prioritize, lead or coach problem solving or continuous improvement projects utilizing quality engineering tools and six sigma tools following the DMAIC methodology
Establishes and monitors data collection methods for the dissemination of reports to manufacturing personnel and management
Leads project teams for the development of process elements of the QMS
Develops process control plans and associated quality checks and error proofing
Conducts Measurement System Analysis and creates measurement instructions / methods
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Directly supervises the Quality Technicians. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
EDUCATION (OR EQUIVALENT EXPERIENCE): Bachelor’s degree in engineering related field is required and 5 years of related experience is preferred.
LICENSES OR CERTIFICATIONS: ASQ CQE and / or SSGB / SSBB desirable but not required.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES REQUIRED: Consummate understanding of manufacturing methods, processes and tools typical to a heavy manufacturing environment. Ability to understand and interpret weld, mechanical, electrical and hydraulic engineering drawings as well as a functioning understanding of GD&T are required. Understanding of DMAIC problem solving methodology and associated tools. Working knowledge of ISO 9001 a plus.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style. Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Position will require work to be performed in both a shop and office environment. Working conditions typical to a manufacturing facility including occasional unassisted lifting of objects up to 50 pounds, kneeling, bending, crouching and reaching above shoulder level. Working primarily indoors with occasional work outdoors and the potential to be exposed to the elements and temperature extremes typical to the local climate.
EQUIPMENT USED TO PERFORM JOB: Basic hand and air tools, PPE, multimeter, inspection equipment including but not limited to micrometers, calipers, gage blocks, gage pins, dial indicators, straight rules, protractors, sine bar, height gage, tape measure, etc.
