Reports To: Bakery Manager, Assistant Bakery Manager

PURPOSE: The purpose of this position is to proof and bake bakery products, plan production, and follows production guidelines, in addition to providing a positive shopping experience for our customers.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Maintaining proper production levels while following production guidelines
  • Thaws, mixes, proofs, and bakes products such as: rolls, bread, cookies, and pastries
  • Assists with inventory receiving duties
  • Orders frozen and dry product and organizes freezers and coolers
  • Handles product carefully to avoid damage
  • Follows safe food handling and preparation processes
  • Inspects all products for quality and freshness
  • Maintains proper records as assigned by the Supervisor

Functional Requirement:
  • Physical: walking, bending, kneeling, able to reach, lift, stack and maneuver objects of varying dimensions and weighing up to 75 lbs., equipment operation (pallet jack, box cutter, Telzon, mixer, microwave oven, bread slicer, ovens, rounder, sheeter, proof boxes, knives, scrapers, and scales)
  • May occasionally be exposed to temperatures of approximately -20 F - 35 F while handling products in freezers, coolers and display cases. Most of the work is performed in a temperature-controlled store environment.
  • Mental: judgment/decision making, social skills/verbal interaction, knowledge of weights and measurements, memorization, reading, writing, & math

Assists customers during their shopping experience
  • Greet, Offer, & Thank all customers
  • Process customer orders properly (quantity, quality and price)
  • Answer customer questions
  • Provide product sampling and suggestive selling
  • Bring customers to the location of product

Functional Requirement:

Maintaining a neat and organized store appearance
  • Ensures floors are clear of debris at all times
  • Cleans all bakery utensils, equipment, merchandising tables, cases, food preparation services, floors, doors, walls, and storage areas according to cleaning schedule
  • Compacts cardboard, stacks pallets, stores and organizes overstock
  • Maintains the eye-appeal of the department
  • Breaking down loads and dating product

  • May occasionally be exposed to temperatures of approximately -20 F - 35 F while handling products in freezers, coolers and display cases. Most of the work is performed in a temperature-controlled store environment.

JOB COMPETENCIES AND REQUIREMENTS:

Attention to detail
  • Checking product for the highest quality
  • Properly thaws, mixes, proofs, and bakes products bakery product
  • Ensures proper signage of product
  • Verifying orders against invoices
  • Maintains cleanliness and eye-appeal of sales floor and back room
  • Maintain knowledge of product movement and specials

Communication skills
  • Ability to Greet, Offer, & Thank all customers
  • Ability to receive feedback and implement processes for improvement
  • Ability to follow directions from the Bakery Department Manager
  • Reporting any shortages and spoiled or damaged product to the Bakery Department Manager

Time management skills
  • Ability to complete assigned tasks without direct supervision in a timely manner
  • Ability to prioritize tasks based on customer and business needs

Experience
  • 2-5 years of baking experience preferred

*Must be able to work a variety of shifts; including nights, weekends, & holidays.
