Reports To: Store Director, Assistant Store Director

PURPOSE: The purpose of this position is to coordinate the Bakery Department plans and management responsibilities to promote sales and achieve profit margins, in addition to providing a positive environment for our customers and associates.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Assists customers during their shopping experience
  • Greet, Offer, & Thank all customers
  • Process customer orders properly (quantity, quality, and price)
  • Answer customer questions
  • Provide product sampling and suggestive selling
  • Ability to perform duties of bakery clerks, cake decorators, and bakers
  • Recording and reporting customer requests
  • Ability to show customers where products are located

Functional Requirement:
  • Physical: walking, bending, kneeling, able to reach, lift, stack and maneuver objects of varying dimensions and weighing up to 75 lbs., equipment operation (intercom, telephone, scanner, register, scale)
  • Mental: judgment/decision making, social skills/verbal interaction, knowledge of weights and measurements, memorization, reading, writing, & math

Maintaining a neat and organized store appearance
  • Ensures floors are clear of debris at all times
  • Cleans all bakery utensils, equipment, merchandising tables, cases, food preparation services, floors, doors, walls, and storage areas according to cleaning schedule
  • Compacts cardboard, stacks pallets, stores and organizes overstock
  • Checks prices and verifies sign and product price
  • Maintains the eye-appeal of the department
  • Breaking down loads and dating product

Functional Requirement:
  • Physical: walking, bending, kneeling, able to reach, lift, stack and maneuver objects of varying dimensions and weighing up to 75 lbs., equipment operation (cardboard baler, garbage compactor, box cutter, pallet jack, ladder, mixer, microwave oven, bread slicer, ovens, rounder, sheeter, proof boxes, knives, scrapers, and scales)
  • May occasionally be exposed to temperatures of approximately -20 F - 35 F while handling products in freezers, coolers and display cases. Most of the work is performed in a temperature-controlled store environment.
  • Mental: judgment/decision making, social skills/verbal interaction, knowledge of weights and measurements, memorization, reading, writing, & math

Maintaining proper inventory levels on the sales floor
  • Ensures correct placement of product
  • Rotates and discards product following Hornbacher's policy
  • Handles product carefully to avoid damage
  • Follows safe food handling and preparation processes
  • Builds and maintains product displays
  • Maintains proper records as assigned by the Supervisor
  • Thaws, mixes, proofs, and bakes products such as: rolls, bread, cookies, and pastries
  • Properly prepares, trays, and wraps bakery product
  • Ensure proper application of icing, glazes, or drizzles
  • Preparation of cakes; applies decoration as requested
  • Accurately labels and prices all wrapped product

Daily supervision of store policies and procedures
  • Develop effective daily/weekly work plans
  • Adherence to Hornbacher's Food Safety Practices
  • Utilize sales projections, budgeted labor goals, & previous operating results to optimize store performance
  • Providing performance reviews to bakery department associates
  • Providing training and development opportunities for store associates
  • Calling in maintenance requests for bakery department issues
  • Manage the department receiving, invoices, pricing, and inventory to ensure proper product control and that gross profit goals are met
  • Supervising, ordering, scheduling, and being responsible for the overall condition of the department

Experience
  • 3-5 years supervisory experience preferred
  • Bakery department experience preferred
  • Food Safety Certification

*Must be able to work a variety of shifts; including nights, weekends, & holidays.
