The primary function of this position is to buy products from vendors, ensuring adequate supply of assigned category is available to fill demands. Maximize profit potential and customer satisfaction levels by purchasing from reliable manufacturers who product high-quality products at competitive prices.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Review daily inventory reports and ensure adequate supply of assigned category is available to meet sales demands.
  • Analyze back order report and resolve all back orders. Contact suppliers to determine product availability schedule. When necessary, provide product spec sheet to other manufacturers and solicit bids to fill purchase orders.
  • Cultivate and maintain solid business relationships with manufacturers.
  • Process invoices and receiving documentation. Ensure all prices and discounts are accurate.
  • Participate in vendor bid process. Determine which products are due for bid and recommend vendors. Prepare SKU price change spreadsheets for Marketing after each bid. Complete spreadsheet in timely manner so upcoming publications are properly priced.
  • Assist in prioritizing work orders based on analysis of sales and on-hand inventories.
  • Monitor inventory report for recommendations of items that require marketing emphasis or discontinuation. Ensure inventory rotates properly.
  • Proactively liaison with other departments as necessary to forecast and plan to meet necessary sales demands and promotions.
  • Participate in industry conventions. Keep aware of new products and manufacturers in the industry. Cultivate business relationships (network) within the industry.
  • Maintain awareness of and communicate international trading issues as they pertain to our products.
  • Maintain a positive and professional working relationship with peers, management, and support resources, with a constant commitment to teamwork and exemplary customer service.
  • Conducts self in the presence of customers and community so as to present a professional image of SHP.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Education and Experience Required: Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, Purchasing, Procurement, or related field along with 1-3 years purchasing or procurement experience. Or; an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential responsibilities and duties of the job as listed above.
