The Lending Systems Manager has direct management oversight of the lending department's processing and workflow systems including the provisioning, configuration, administration, and maintenance of systems. The Lending Systems Manager supports all lending department managers in fulfilling technological strategic goals and expectations of the customer's experience, including research and development of proposed systems through validation and implementation of those systems. This position has the main responsibility to ensure the systems are working optimally and successfully. This position has direct oversight responsibility of managing relationships and interaction with third party system vendors and the internal IT department. This individual will lead and manage most lending system projects.


JOB FUNCTION NUMBER 1: Responsible to ensure lending systems are used accurately, consistently and efficiently with optimum utilization to maximize return on investment. 40%
  • Maintain high level knowledge of the daily operations, process and procedures, workflow, laws and regulations and technical know-how of business and consumer lending.
  • Work with lending department managers to identify and assign system owners, may be responsible for assigned system ownership if the system is complex or crosses over multiple department users.
  • Oversee the configuration process and regular review of system administration setup with system owners; products, users, workflow, policies, documents, reporting.
  • Oversee the process of system maintenance in partnership with vendors and system owners; review new releases, assess user impact, test system capabilities, design work arounds, communicate changes to users.
  • Assess utilization rates of systems and work to achieve optimum levels.
  • Ensure system reports are available and utilized to support business operations and meet user needs.
  • Ensure user access is conducted and maintained properly in coordination with security requests and user access reviews from IT.
  • Ensure system training materials are available and kept current and ensure all users are properly trained to conduct their use of the system.
  • Ensure procedures for system use are written and maintained.
  • Ensure system owners participate in vendor provided user groups, attend user conferences and obtain system administration training.
  • Ensure system owners are available and trained to trouble shoot system issues and be a liaison and centralized point of contact with vendor and IT.
  • Ensure ownership is properly assigned to complete on-going invoice review and payment approval.

JOB FUNCTION NUMBER 2: Provide necessary project support in conjunction with needs of Lending Management and Corporate Project and Process Management. 30%
  • Lead project status updates project discussions in the Lending Project meetings in collaboration with the Alerus Project Team.
  • Regularly attend, participate and contribute to Loan Management meeting discussions regarding systems and projects.
  • Collaborate with other departments on technology solutions related to One Alerus project initiatives.
  • ct as a project team lead, member or sponsor of projects related to lending systems.
  • Communicate project status, issues and development to IT Project Manager along with lending department management, as appropriate.
  • Manage assigned project tasks and deadlines.

JOB FUNCTION NUMBER 3: Understand the lending department's system needs and goals and ensure business systems and technology align with those needs and goals. 20%
  • Collaborate with lending department managers to identify system solutions needed to meet present day and long term strategic goals.
  • Analyze and test current lending processes and systems to determine system effectiveness and identify gaps or issues.
  • Research system solutions to arrive at options.
  • Partner with IT Business Process Analyst to conduct business process analyses and cost/benefits analysis on potential solutions.
  • Document and illustrate process improvements and prepare business case to support system recommendations.
  • Collaborate with users, lending department managers and IT Business Process Analyst to arrive at best case solution.
  • Present and obtain necessary approval for new system solutions.
  • Work with IT Project Manager or Business Process Analyst and Internal Legal Counsel to manage contract review, negotiation, acceptance and renewal and complete vendor due diligence.
  • Work with IT Project Managers to implement system solutions.
  • Define methods of measuring and evaluating results of process change and evaluate results.

JOB FUNCTION NUMBER 4: Responsible to ensure vendor management and model management procedures are completed accurately, timely and thoroughly in the lending department. 10%
  • Maintain vendor listing so that it is current, accurate and thorough.
  • Work with lending department managers to ensure vendor owners are properly identified and assigned, may be assigned as a vendor owner if the system supported by the vendor is complex or crosses over multiple departments.
  • Ensure vendor owners are equipped to request and obtain documents from vendor to perform initial or annual vendor due diligence timely.
  • Assist vendor owners as needed to review vendor provided documents and complete internal vendor due diligence spreadsheet.
  • Assist vendor owners with IT collaboration on any security or technology reviews.
  • Partner with vendor owners to manage contract review, negotiation, acceptance and renewal in conjunction with internal legal counsel.
  • Ensure all contract review and vendor review documents and reports are provided timely to Compliance for final review.
  • Oversee model validation needs, requirements and process and ensure validation is completed at frequency required.
  • Communicate with lending department managers on system costs for budgeting and profitability analysis.
  • Coordinate references for other vendor customers or prospects.


  • Bachelor Degree in Business Administration, Finance, or Accounting or equivalent professional experience required.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in business and consumer lending required.
  • Previous experience managing technology platforms and relationships with technology vendors required.
  • Demonstrated technological aptitude.
  • Proven analysis and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledgeable in report development and presentation tools.
  • Proven ability to learn new technologies quickly and apply knowledge to company needs.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Exhibited ability to manage productive collaboration between internal departments.

  • Extended periods of time sitting at a desk and using office equipment.
  • Ability to operate a personal computer/laptop for approximately 8 hours per day.
  • Extended time is spent reviewing physical and electronic documents.
  • The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
  • Periodically, may also do light lifting of supplies and materials which weighs in at approximately 20 lbs.
  • Will spend most of time in an indoor environment.
  • Will have a need to travel to and work at multiple locations and markets.
  • Requires the routine & safe operation of a motor vehicle to travel between multiple locations to perform the essential functions of the job.
