Position Description:
Research specialist at an agricultural research site (located in Oakes, ND) responsible for assisting scientists in conducting the field crops research program. Position requires diverse skills with major responsibilities to include field research trial implementation and management, equipment operation and maintenance, crop input application, irrigation system operation, laboratory duties, and contributions toward educational/extension activities.

This position is located at the Oakes Irrigation Research Site near Oakes, North Dakota. Oakes is a thriving rural community of approximately 1,800 people in a widely diversified agricultural production region of southeastern North Dakota. Oakes has progressive schools (K-12), modern medical services (clinic and hospital), and many recreation opportunities.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor of Science degree in agronomy or closely related field
• Two to 3 years of hands-on and practical experience and knowledge of crops and crop production
• Familiarity with northern plains crops and crop production techniques
• Experience and demonstrated ability to operate and maintain agricultural field and research equipment
• General knowledge of computers and capabilities to utilize software for word processing and data management
• Good written and oral communication skills and evidence of positive producer interaction
• Willingness to be timely to work schedule and work extended days and weekends on occasion
• Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to work within a team
• Current or ability/desire to attain a North Dakota Commercial Pesticide Applicators License
• Valid driver's license

Preferred Qualifications:
• Master of Science degree in an agricultural field related to crop, soil or water
• Irrigation experience such as operation of irrigation systems, irrigated crop production or water management
• Experience in field plot research design, field trial management, field mapping, data analysis and interpretation
• Experience applying agricultural pesticides and related crop input applications
• Experience utilizing computer software such as Microsoft Office, ArcGIS, ARM , SAS , etc.

Physical Demands:
Stand, walk, work with hands, reach frequently. Frequent climbing on and off of equipment. Moderate requirement for lifting.
