Job Summary

The Statistician is responsible for analyzing, creating, enhancing and contributing to projects via statistical analysis and reporting. This position performs statistical sampling procedures to support potential investigations into fraud, waste, abuse, medical necessity or overpayments, as indicated in contractual requirements. This position provides unique proactive data analytic designs to detect billing patterns of interest in support of program integrity activities.

  • Knowledge of Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) programs, rules, and regulations

Essential Functions

FLSA Category: Exempt - Learned Professional

Key Duties/Responsibilities/Accountabilities
  • Prepares data coming from multiple integrated systems and performs data analysis on projects that include the manipulation of large data sets.
  • Develops programming script and conducts data mining analysis by extracting and compiling data from available data sources via Business Objects, SAS and/or other statistical software.
  • Collects, analyzes, interprets, and summarizes data to prepare drafts, reports, and presentations of statistical and analytical data.
  • Formats data, develops and prepares reports, charts, tables and other related documents and graphics of report findings and recommendations.
  • Creates and generates reports through multiple statistical software systems.
  • Analyzes and problem solves issues with current and planned systems as they relate to statistical analysis.
  • Tests programs and verifies data for accuracy and statistical validity; analyzes reports for errors and provides assistance and consultative services to other department staff regarding data services, questions and/or concerns.

Non-Essential Duties and Functions
  • Provides departmental support to all areas of Data Analytics department and other teams within organization.



Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Mathematics, Computer Science or closely related field
  • 3 years' statistical or data analysis experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills

Preferred Qualifications

Above requirements and the following:
  • Master's Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science or closely related field
  • Experience with data warehousing concepts, report writing tools, and multiple statistical software products
  • Experience with statistical business modeling

  • Requires prolonged sitting and telephone usage
  • Requires the use of office equipment such as computer terminals, telephones, copiers and printers

  • Ability to travel
