2018 Summer Internships
We are currently recruiting for our 2018 Summer Intern class.
We have a great Intern Program full of opportunities for students to learn about our industry. We hold an Intern Kick-Off in May to begin the season, where you will have the opportunity to network with other interns, get introduced to the Leadership and Management Team, and we will also have some training for you that afternoon. In August, we hold an Intern Wrap-Up session where you will give a 3-5 minute presentation on your summer, from things you liked, advise for next year’s interns, and the projects you worked on, etc. This is a paid internship, with the opportunity to earn a scholarship up to $750.

Here are the opportunities that we have available for this Summer and a short description of each type. Please note, availability will depend on location’s needs and each location will vary in requirements needed and duties assigned depending on need.
Agronomy Intern – This intern will perform a variety of tasks including, but not limited to: learn how to mix/blend chemicals and fertilizer, learn the mechanics of PLC equipment, learn how to calibrate and operate tendering and applicator equipment; warehouse operations; tissue sampling; shadow MZB Precision Ag department, safety department and Sales Agronomists to fully understand the importance of each department.
Crop Scout Intern – This person will scout fields and make recommendations with assistance from Sales Agronomist. Make deliveries of feed, seed, chemical, and fertilizer. Concentrate on test plots and soil sampling. This person will need to be trained.
Grain Operations Intern (location based)- Work with Location Managers and/or Grain Department to learn all aspects of elevator operations. Will also work with the Maintenance Department to learn about mechanical maintenance and repairs. Learn how to grade and blend grain, load trains, and shadow Grain Merchandisers, dispatching and Truck Transportation Departments. Observe management training sessions.
Grain/Agronomy Operations (Admin) – This intern will work from our Administrative office on various projects for the Directors of Agronomy and Operations throughout the summer. Some project includes: grain dyer and moisture and protein machine updates, warehouse capacity reviews, and assessing efficiency modeling in soil sample process for improvements. This internship will be full of a variety of tasks that will help you gain knowledge on the administrative side of Agronomy and Grain operations.
Precision Ag Intern – This intern position will be focused towards the agronomy aspect of Precision Ag Technology on the farm, based out of our administrative office. Student will get broad exposure to: Satellite Imagery, Aerial Imagery, Zone Map Creation, Zone Nutrients Recommendations, Data Management and documentation, UAV Technology, exposure to Precision Hardware Technology, exposure to MZB Mapping Center, the intern will also complete a summer internship project. The project will consist of monitoring fields enrolled in the Wheat Growers Agronomic Challenge that compares zone management to conventional farming practices.
Truck Driving/Application Intern – Driving dry tender truck to the airflow machines and driving liquid truck to the sprayers. Other duties will include helping as needed delivering chemical and seed. This person may also drive our application equipment.
