JOB SUMMARY

Assists physicians in providing medical care to assigned patients. Planning and implementing physical examinations, interventions, and evaluating patient response according to instructions of the attending physician. Providing preventive health measures and medical care to assigned patients within prescribed guidelines as well as ordering medical supplies and equipment. Recording, interpreting and evaluating physical findings, identifying patient's health care needs, and participating in formulating plan and prognosis based on patient's condition. Making house calls, going to health clinics or nursing homes to check on the rehabilitation conditions of assigned patients, and reporting back to the attending physician.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Position will be responsible for seeing patients in the clinic, hospital, emergency room, and possibly the nursing home. This position will also be responsible for emergency room call, which is split between 5 providers. Will need to become certified in DOT's and licensed in Iowa as well.

QUALIFICATIONS

Must have passed the Physician Assistants National Certifying Examination, administered by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) or been grandfathered by the South Dakota Board of Medical & Osteopathic Examiners. Only those successfully completing the national certification examination may use the credential PA-C or Physician Assistant-Certified. In order to remain certified, PAs must complete 100 hours of continuing medical education every 2 years. Every 6 years, they must pass a recertification examination or complete an alternative program combining learning experiences and a take-home examination. Must possess a state Physician Assistant's license. Must have successfully completed a formal program of study at an accredited university, college or school in primary health care or a recognized clinical specialty. The course of study is approved by the South Dakota Board of Medical & Osteopathic Examiners.
