JOB SUMMARY

Assists patients with rehabilitative activities and exercises scheduled in a treatment plan, under the supervision of an occupational therapist, to improve patients' quality of life and ability to perform daily activities. Provides, monitors and records rehabilitative services for patients suffering from mental, physical, emotional or developmental impairments, in line with related standard concepts, practices and procedures. Records patients' progress for occupational therapists and adjusts treatments when they do not generate the intended effect or the patient is not improving as expected. Prepares equipment and materials for treatment; assists patients and provides encouragement to make sure that they correctly perform treatments. Performs clerical duties for the department, including scheduling appointments, answering calls, restocking or ordering depleted supplies, completing insurance forms and preparing patients' health insurance-related bills or other paperwork.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Creates a team environment of accountability and commitment for reaching project goals. Adheres to legal regulations and organizational policies when discussing patient health information. Maintains current certifications in specialty and continues education when necessary. Adheres to American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) standards and guidelines for Occupational Therapy. Identifies common patient safety risks within the organization and how they can be avoided. Demonstrates knowledge of development and delivery of patient education for diverse audiences. Demonstrates understanding of patient assessment and therapy implementation. Identifies the importance of monitoring patient responses and reactions during therapy. Knowledge of the value of self-motivation and initiative; ability and willingness to seek out work and the drive to accomplish goals. Establishes and maintains productive working relationships within and outside of own area. Follows guidelines, regulations, standards and safety procedures in the therapy process.

QUALIFICATIONS

Must be licensed as an Occupational Therapy Assistant in the state(s) of practice. Must also be certified as an Occupational Therapy Assistant through the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT). Conforms to the supervision and licensing standards of the state(s) where services are provided. When applicable, may require valid driver's license. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 6 months of employment. Appropriate education level required in accordance with state licensure.
