JOB SUMMARY

Possesses the knowledge and ability to dispense prescription drugs to patients. Helps patients understand doctor's instructions and monitors patients' health and progress. Manages daily prescriptions. Advises doctors on the selection, dosages, interactions and side effects of medication. Provides information about drug side effects and interactions among different drugs. Dispenses drugs and makes sure people are taking the right medications. Monitors the health and progress of patients in response to drug therapy. Reviews drug utilization and answers questions about prescription drugs. Provides information and makes recommendations about drugs. Takes inventory and handles other basic pharmacy events, such as answering incoming physician calls and logging data.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

The Sanford Health Pharmacy Department is seeking a full time pharmacist to focus on the Pediatric, Neonatal and Women's population. Sanford Medical Center Fargo has 16 pediatric, 16 PICU, and 40 NICU beds. The hospital is accredited for Pediatric Level II Trauma. The pharmacy staff at Sanford Health works with nurses, physicians, other members of the interdisciplinary team and to focus on a team approach to health care. The responsibilities of the pharmacist include order verification, antimicrobial stewardship, chemotherapy review, and providing pharmacy clinical services for these patients. Pediatric pharmacists are decentralized in the day shift (3), the evening shift and the day shifts on the weekends. The pharmacist will participate in providing education and have teaching opportunities with our traditional PGY1 residency program, our non-traditional PGY1 residency program, PGY2 critical care residency program, and APPE pharmacy students. The successful candidate will have advanced training or direct experience with the pediatric/neonatal patient population. A PGY-1 residency in a pediatric setting, BCPPS credential, or a PGY-2 in pediatrics is preferred. The candidate will have the opportunity to staff 7 on/7 off evenings, 70 hours per pay period, with Mon-Fri decentralized in a Pediatric/PICU/NICU team room with interdisciplinary staff and Sat/Sun in central pharmacy.

The pharmacist will participate in providing education and have teaching opportunities with our traditional PGY1 residency program, our non-traditional PGY1 residency program and APPE pharmacy students. The successful candidate will have advanced training or direct experience with the pediatric/neonatal patient population. A PGY-1 residency in a pediatric setting, BCPPS credential, or a PGY-2 is pediatrics is preferred.

DEPARTMENT DETAILS

In addition to pediatric service lines, pharmacy services at Sanford Medical Center include involvement in acute care surgery, neurology, cardiology, pediatrics, oncology, intensive care, general medicine, dialysis, transplant, antimicrobial stewardship, and medication reconciliation. Our decentralized pharmacist positions include clinical activities such as pharmacokinetics, TPN ordering and monitoring, anticoagulation dosing, renal dosing, IV to PO adjustments, and antimicrobial stewardship. All pharmacist staff are trained in the central pharmacy and IV room. Sanford Medical Center Fargo is now a Comprehensive Stroke Center and is seeking Level 1 Trauma accreditation in Summer 2018.

The candidate will have the opportunity staff 7 on/7 off evenings, 70 hours per pay period, with Mon-Fri decentralized in a Pediatric/PICU/NICU team room with interdisciplinary staff and Sat/Sun in central pharmacy.

QUALIFICATIONS

License must be in good standing by the State Board of Pharmacy in state(s) of practice and/or possess multi-state licensure privileges as required by position Graduation from an accredited College of Pharmacy. Pharm D degree. Experience in a Hospital is preferred.
