JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for and provides overall supervision of the assigned service area patients in concert with additional leadership and interacts with health system departments, medical staff and patient/families. Oversee and assist with scheduling nursing staff to specific shifts, taking into account past utilization trends. Responsible to implement the nursing process within Sanford and the continuum of care. The nursing process is utilized to assess, diagnose, establish a plan with outcome criteria, intervene, evaluate, and document human responses to actual or potential health problems. Collaborates with other inter-professional colleagues, including providers, to plan, implement and evaluate care.Demonstrates competency and practices within the full scope of nursing expertise/knowledge and utilizes appropriate age and population specific standards as designated in their assigned clinical setting. Cares for patients in all phases of preventative care, health maintenance, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up as patients move along the continuum of care. Responsible for the planning and coordination of care, patient assessment, patient education, triage, and various other nursing interventions. Functions within the scope and standards of nursing practice as outlined in the Nurse Practice Act and Administrative Rules in state of practice and licensure. The Sanford Professional Nursing Practice recognizes the Scope and Standards of Practice and the Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements as published by the American Nurses Association as the foundation of nursing care delivery and professional conduct.Expected to demonstrate leadership to employees, serving as a role model, and encouraging vision and change projects. Understand the critical components associated and required to achieve intended results and ability to assist in hiring, selection, retaining, and leveraging talent across the unit. Collaborate and provides feedback in measuring employee performance. Assist in coaching, mentoring, and disciplinary situations as needed. Assists in the training of new staff members and the development of existing staff members. Practices positive collaboration and converts difficult interactions into productive ones. Expected to ensure department meets all regulatory requirements. Knowledge of quality management methods, tools, and techniques and ability to create and support an environment that meets the quality goals of the organization. Expected to assist in data monitoring, reports and improvements. Quality management will be demonstrated by assuring delivery of safe patient care through ensuring supplies and equipment are readily available for each specialized area and procedure. Maintains current certifications in specialty and continues education when necessary. Will serve and/or chair departmental/organization committees and task forces as needed. May be asked to assist with other projects or work assignments as needed by organization, department or leadership.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Contributes to standard practices for problem-solving approaches, tools, and processes. Coordinates and manages care for patients, including those with complex needs. Delivers written and oral communication, responds to questions and concerns, and produce specific outcomes and impact. Demonstrates the value and necessity of linking tactical plans to overall strategic plan. Determines individual and team competency requirements, vulnerabilities, and learning needs. Develops departmental operations best practices to ensure an effective and smooth workflow. Effectively delegates and supervises based on ones state practice act and an understanding of the concepts of responsibility, authority, and accountability. Implements healthcare policies and ethical requirements when providing clinical services. May assist with providing feedback in the collection and preparation of required budget information. Performs quality control and maintains a high standard in relation to infection control mechanisms for patient safety. Promotes and ensures patient satisfaction while complying with safety and regulatory requirements. Promotes awareness within organization of relevant regulatory environment. Responsible for promoting a safe environment for patients, families, staff and visitors and works collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary health care team to provide the best outcomes for patients. Sets scheduling guidelines, dependent on different working environments.

QUALIFICATIONS

Currently holds an unencumbered RN license with the State Board of Nursing where the practice of nursing is occurring and/or possess multistate licensure if in a Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) state. Obtains and subsequently maintains required department specific competencies and certifications. Certification may be required depending on specialty or service area. Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 60 days of employment into position. Bachelor's degree in nursing required. Graduate from a nationally accredited nursing program required, including, but not limited to, Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), and National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (NLN CNEA). Three years of clinical nursing experience preferred. Thorough knowledge of the nursing practice act and standards of nursing care, and a working knowledge of administrative and management techniques.
