JOB SUMMARY

Administers nursing care under the supervision of a registered nurse. Participates in the implementation and evaluation of patient care. Ensures the health, comfort and safety of patients. Maintains certification as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). Documents a thorough medical history from patient and performs or helps perform a physical exam to determine patient's needs. Discusses information collected from patient with registered nurse and administers medication or treatment as ordered. Consults with physician if necessary. Maintains stock of medical tools needed for registered nurse or physician. May transport and prepare patients for examinations. Counsels patients and family members on prevention and treatment plan for health issues under direction of registered nurse.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

The Kidney Dialysis Centers at Sanford Health provide dialysis for patients with End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) and acute renal failure. This includes hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis,
continuous renal replacement therapy, continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis, and continuous cycler peritoneal dialysis. Also included is a full range of diagnostic and therapeutic
services such as laboratory, radiology, social services, dietary, and rehabilitation. Additional services in the hospital that are also available to dialysis patients include cardiology, oncology,
pathology, urology, vascular surgery, respiratory therapy, neurology, orthopedics, hematology, endocrinology, infection control, and ophthalmology. Kidney Transplantation and transplant follow-up is also available.

QUALIFICATIONS

Requires current licensure as a practical nurse in the state/states of practice. Must have graduated from an accredited school or college of nursing program leading to licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Associate's degree in practical nursing is preferred. Minimum of 2 years experience preferred/required.
