JOB SUMMARY

Required to perform clinical laboratory testing and other necessary duties to keep the department functioning smoothly. Will work with self discipline, good judgment, and considerable independence while following established standards of practice. Overall will demonstrate technical competency and will consult with leadership when necessary. Needs to recognize responsibilities of other laboratory and health care personnel and interact with respect for their jobs and patient care. Understand the use and limitations of laboratory instruments and equipment, must demonstrate proficiency in assigned areas, be able to learn and utilize new technology as laboratory medicine changes. Must be able to work with growth and development needs of unique client populations for the all age groups. Perform laboratory testing according to established standards and regulations to assist the provider in diagnosis and treatment of the patients.

Sanford USD Medical Center Laboratory is a high complex Laboratory with state-of-the-art equipment that services a level II Trauma Center, Pediatric hospital, and a 500 plus bed hospital. Areas of testing include chemistry, hematology, coagulation, flow cytometry, urinalysis, immunology, immunohematology, microbiology and histology. Provide leadership in the education and training of new employees, students, other health care professionals, and the public. This position is is a full time position at 36 hours a week, primarily working between the hours of 10:00 pm and 7:00 am with rotating weekends and holidays.

QUALIFICATIONS

Must have passed a national certification exam for Medical Technologist (MT), Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) through the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) and maintain continuing education credits equivalent to the requirements of SD licensure law. If the new graduate does not possess national certification at the time of hire, must become certified within one year of the date of hire. Must be a graduate of a Medical Lab Science Program of an NAACLS approved School of Laboratory Science. Must have at least a Baccalaureate Degree in an appropriate discipline.
