JOB SUMMARY

Required to perform clinical laboratory testing and other necessary duties to keep the department functioning smoothly. Will work with self discipline, good judgment, and considerable independence while following established standards of practice. Overall will demonstrate technical competency and will consult with leadership when necessary. Needs to recognize responsibilities of other laboratory and health care personnel and interact with respect for their jobs and patient care. Understand the use and limitations of laboratory instruments and equipment, must demonstrate proficiency in assigned areas, be able to learn and utilize new technology as laboratory medicine changes. Must be able to work with growth and development needs of unique client populations for the all age groups. Perform laboratory testing according to established standards and regulations to assist the provider in diagnosis and treatment of the patients.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Adheres to established internal standards and procedures abstracted from Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Adheres to relevant policies and ethics for clinical laboratory testing. Collects medical specimens with strict adherence to established procedures and test requisitions. Identifies available resources and support systems for troubleshooting. Maintains current certifications in specialty and continues education when necessary. Presents a professional image, especially when dealing with customers. Promotes organizational learning through knowledge management, training and development, and sharing key experiences. Works with quality assurance methods, tools and techniques.

DEPARTMENT DETAILS

This is a full time position of 32 hours a week working varied shifts. Typically working 8 to 10 hour shifts between the hours of 7:00 am and 8:00 pm along with rotating weekends and on-call schedule

QUALIFICATIONS

Must hold current national certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (ASCP). If the associate is not certified at hire, the associate must become so within one year of the date of hire. Requires completion of an approved Medical Laboratory Scientist program. Must have knowledge of laboratory equipment, procedures, CLIA regulations, and quality control methods.
