Disability Specialist

Position Description:
Disability Services is seeking a qualified and skilled professional to join our team as a Disability Specialist. This position is responsible for coordinating the interactive process for students with a disability to ensure equal access to the higher education environment. This includes reviewing documentation, maintaining confidential student information, determining eligibility and facilitating the accommodation process in a timely manner. This position also regularly collaborates with NDSU faculty, staff and community partners, as well as responds to inquiries from prospective students and parents regarding the Disability Services process. Maintaining a basic understanding and knowledge of Disability Services trends in assistive technology is also important.

This is an 11 month position that works from August 1 - June 30 each year.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Education, Special Education, Rehabilitation Counseling, Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, Social Sciences or related field
• Minimum 3-5 years demonstrated professional experience working with individuals with disabilities, preferably in an educational setting
• Working knowledge of the ADA and Section 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act
• Case management experience
• Demonstrated experience using MS Office
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Self-motivated; ability to prioritize; adaptable
• Detail oriented

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master's degree in Special Education, Education, Counseling, Rehabilitation Counseling, Psychology, Social Work or related field
• One year professional work experience working with student with disabilities in a post-secondary institution
• Demonstrated knowledge in interpreting and applying Section 504 and the ADA in a higher education setting
• Demonstrated knowledge of assistive technology and equipment
