Job Details
With direction from the Security Supervisor, the Security Officer will
ensure the facility, building and grounds are safe and secure for staff, visitors and
patients.
• JOB RELATIONSHIPS:
A. REPORTS TO: Security Supervisor
B. SUPERVISES: None
C. INTERRELATIONSHIPS WITH: All hospital staff, patients and visitors. During
the PM and night shift the Security Officer will coordinate with the Nursing
Supervisor.
• HOURS OF WORK: Rotations: 6:00 am - 2:00 pm, 2:00 pm - 10:00 pm, and 10:00
pm to 6:00 am
• DRESS CODE: Security uniform
• ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS OF WORK (Minimum qualifications necessary to
function at full productivity).
A. EDUCATION AND TRAINING: High school education required, on-the-job training
provided. Must pass the IAHSS (International Association for Healthcare Security &
Safety) Basic Training Manual for Healthcare Security Officers within the first 6
months. This manual and training are provided. Must successfully complete crisis team
training. Must be able to appropriately use force on subject as needed when necessary.
Must pass defensive tactics training to include, M.A.C.H. (mechanical
Advantage Control Holds. LOCKUP (Law Officers Combat Kinetics
Unarmed Panalopy) Verbal Judo, PPCT (pressure point control tactics)
and Taser training. This training will be provided. Knowledgeable of
when force is appropriate to use.
B. EXPERIENCE: Some security, Law Enforcement and/or Military background
preferred.
C. JOB KNOWLEDGE (Specific): Knowledge of all emergency codes and alarms.
Use of fire extinguishers and fire alarm system, use of 800 MHz radios,
pagers, phone system, and report writing. Good verbal communication skills are
required
D. LIFTING REQUIREMENTS: Sustained physical effort, standing, sitting,
stooping, lifting, pushing, pulling, and climbing. Must be able to perform these
essential functions of the job and have the ability to lift without assistance a
minimum of 75 pounds.

medical staff, patients, and visitors
• PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF THE JOB: Must be able to be on your feet for long periods
of time.
• PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT OF THE JOB: Inside and outside of hospital, able to
endure extreme hot or cold weather as well as quick temperature changes from inside
to outside. Work at night.
• EQUIPMENT OR MACHINES USED ON THE JOB: Telephone, communications
equipment, fire equipment, and 800 MHz radios, PC familiarity with access to Security
Access platform, Milestone CCTV platform.
• MENTAL DEMANDS OF THE JOB:
A. JUDGEMENT AND INITIATIVE: Must have good judgment to avoid harm to
self and/or others. Must take initiative to escort people, question people, take
action if necessary.

visitors; contact when escorting employees to parking lot
• PRINCIPAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES, TASKS, AND AUTHORITIES:
A. RESPONSIBILITY: Air Ambulance Procedure
PRIORITY: 1 % OF TIME: 5 DISCRETION:
TASKS:
1. Respond to the helipad for incoming Air Ambulances.
2. Ensure safe landing area.
3. Notify Communication Center of the status of helipad.
4. Escort crew to patient and back to helicopter.
AUTHORITIES: Has authority to carry out the above tasks
B. RESPONSIBILITY: Respond to Emergency codes.
PRIORITY: 1 % OF TIME: 5 DISCRETION:
TASKS:
1. Respond to all emergency codes within the facility.
2. Respond to all Code 6/600.
3. Respond to all Fire Alarms.
4. Respond to all Missing persons.
5. Respond to all Medical Teams.
6. Respond to all Weather related warnings.
AUTHORITIES: Has the authority to carry out all the above tasks
C. RESPONSIBILITY: Provide Internal/External security of the facility.
PRIORITY: 3 % OF TIME: 60 DISCRETION:
TASKS:
1. Conduct internal and external security rounds of the facility to monitor
safety/security of all staff, patients and visitors and the integrity of the
building.
2. Ensure all staff has proper Rice identification cards displayed.
3. Lock and Unlock doors at predetermined times.
4. Maintain activity reports with Report Exec system.
5. Use sound judgment and learned skills to accomplish tasks and resolve
incidents as necessary.
AUTHORITIES: Has the authority to carry out the above tasks
D. RESPONSIBILITY: Assist with disruptive person(s) in the hospital as
requested.
PRIORITY: 2 % OF TIME: 25 DISCRETION:
TASKS:
1. Assist the nursing staff and physicians with disruptive patients to include
hold orders, restraints or patient monitoring. Communicate with staff
about the expectations of the security officer and the request for
assistance with the patient.
2. Respond and assist with disruptive visitors, this may include calling the
Willmar Police Department for assistance.
3. Communicate with disruptive person(s) using sound verbal de-escalation
techniques.
4. Apply force on persons(s) as needed following RMH-608 Use of Force
policy.
5. Affect citizen's arrest as necessary as per RMH 608 Use of Force
policy.
AUTHORITIES: The Security Officer will take direction from the physician,
nurse or nurse supervisor.
E. RESPONSIBILITY: Maintain communication and coordinate security
activities/concerns with the supervisor(s) daily.
PRIORITY: 2 % OF TIME: 2 DISCRETION:
TASKS:
1. Coordinate with the security supervisor on a daily basis about
security/safety concerns to include facility grounds.
2. Coordinate with nurse supervisor or charge nurse about patient
concerns, i.e. disruptive patients, patient holds, aggressive patient etc.

F. RESPONSIBILITY: OnGuard Security Access platform

1. Provide door locking/unlocking as required/requested.

1. Monitor Milestone CCTV thru shift.
2. Access archived video surveillance as requested from
supervisor/director.
3. Report problems/issues of CCTV that are not functioning properly.
4. Search archived video and make recordings available as per
supervisor/Director request.
