The City of West Fargo is currently accepting applications for Police Officers. These positions will provide law enforcement services to the West Fargo community.

An equivalent of 60 semester hours in Criminal Justice or a closely related field is required. POST license or POST eligible is a must. Applicants must be able to render credible testimony in a court of law. Valid driver's license is also required.

The physical agility testing and written exam will take place on June 13, 2018. Preliminary interviews will be conducted on June 14 and 15, 2018.

Annual starting salary for applicants with 0-2 years of experience is $49,108. Applicants with civilian law enforcement experience may qualify for lateral years for service credit, with a starting salary of $49,108-51,605, depending on experience. Full benefit package includes 100% employer-paid contribution to the NDPERS pension system.

Qualifications
Education, Training and Experience Guidelines 60 Semester Hours in Criminal Justice or a closely related field OR three years of experience in law enforcement or three years military service or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must not be subject to the restrictions or prohibitions as set forth by the Lautenberg Amendment of the Gun Control Act of 1968. Must be able to render credible testimony in a court of law. Knowledge of: • City organization, operations, policies and procedures. • Department rules and regulations. • Modern methods and practices of investigation and interrogation. • Emergency management and National Incident Management programs and systems. • Local ordinances and applicable state and federal laws. • Modern police procedures and techniques and their appropriate application. • Geography of the City. • First aid and life saving techniques. Skill in: • Using initiative, discretion and judgment within established procedural guidelines. • Communicating effectively, both orally and in writing. • Interpreting complex laws, rules and regulations. • Creating and maintaining effective working relationships with peers, superiors, other City departments, vendors, suppliers, contractors, civic leaders, schools, external government agencies, community organizations, truckers and the general public. • Operation and maintenance of various weapons and equipment used in law enforcement operations. • Techniques used to subdue violent or uncooperative individuals. • Operating a motor vehicle under emergency conditions and at high speeds. • Securing necessary and pertinent information through interviews and various investigative methods. • Team building. • Customer service. • Performing research. • Managing situations requiring diplomacy, fairness, firmness and sound judgment. • Interacting with people of different social, economic, and ethnic backgrounds. • Operating a personal computer utilizing standard and specialized software.
Special Requirements
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS North Dakota POST Board certification. Possession of a valid driver's license.
