Minimum Hiring Salary/Position Classification: $120,000+/Annual-Depending On Experience, Full-Time, Benefited, Exempt

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Subject to call ins on evenings and weekends. Some travel is required.

This position is located at the Energy & Environmental Research Center (EERC), an International leader in energy and environmental research, conducting projects for clients throughout the United States and the world. The EERC is looking for an experienced, aggressive, scientifically trained, and market-oriented Professional Engineer (PE), with a background in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent to contribute to the success of the organization by performing the following functions:

  • Position will have oversight responsibility for the safe conduct of all research and technology development activities in on-site demonstration areas and facilities.
  • Lead a team of engineers (design and drafting) and technicians (machine shop, certified welders, instrumentation, and operations) in support of a wide range of EERC technology development and commercialization projects/activities. Specific technology areas will include but will not be limited to fuel combustion, gasification, and reforming, emissions control, CO2 capture, renewable energy, and materials processing.
  • Maintain/update exiting policies/procedures, and develop new policies/procedures pertaining to the EERC’s execution of ongoing and new project activities.   
  • Maintain/update exiting policies/procedures, and develop new policies/procedures pertaining to the maintenance/repair of EERC’s equipment, process systems, and capabilities.      
  • Develop and pursue technology development and project opportunities consistent with areas of expertise and interest.
  • Work with others to prepare and lead proposals for research related to areas of expertise; and develop and manage project scopes of work, objectives, personnel, and budgets in an exceptional manner.
  • Successful candidates would also be expected to prepare and manage the preparation of technical reports, conference papers, and peer-reviewed journal articles and deliver technical presentations. 
  • Some travel is required.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in chemical or mechanical engineering or related field.
  • Experience with equipment/process design software.
  • Experience developing a scope of work and associated budget/schedule. 
  • Professional Engineer certification.
  • Direct experience leading project teams.
  • Direct experience leading proposal development.
  • Applicants may be required to present to the interviewers during the interview process.
  • Cover letter, resume or curriculum vitae.
  • Valid driver’s license, as some travel is required.
  • Successful completion of criminal history background check.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10+ years of industry and research experience regarding equipment/process design, fabrication/assembly, and operation/maintenance.
  • Master or Ph.D. in chemical or mechanical engineering or related field.
  • Experience in a technology development or commercial design/fabrication/manufacturing or material processing facility.
  • Experience serving as a Principle Investigator on U.S. Department of Energy- and/or commercial client-funded projects.
  • Experience leading a team of engineers and technicians conducting technology development projects and/or operating a commercial processing facility.
  • Demonstrated technical writing ability, author or coauthor of published, peer-reviewed technical papers, reports, and or journal articles.
