Job Details

The Health Unit Coordinator/Nursing Assistant I functions as the nursing unit receptionist; coordinates nursing unit, manages requests by priority from the nurse call system, telephone system, fax system, and controlled access doors; functions as the customer service associate for the nursing unit; performs assigned daily tasks as described in the Health Unit Coordinator duties lists; performs HUC admission duties per unit protocol; completes physician order processing per protocol; functions as an Epic resource and super-user to providers, nursing staff, and ancillary staff; obtains, maintains and completes all required reports; completes charge entry, charge review, lost charge tracking and patient account maintenance; completes patient valuable procedures; performs transfer and discharge procedures; schedules patient post-hospital appointments per protocol; demonstrates the ability to adjust own workload to meet fluctuation in patient or customer needs on assigned nursing unit and across Inpatient Division, and functions as a Nursing Assistant I as delegated. Patients cared for include infants, children, adolescent, adult and geriatric.

Required:
• High school graduate or the equivalent.
• Associate degree or two (2) years of University studies in a health care, communication, or science field of study or equivalent work experience in a health care related area.
• Registration by the North Dakota State Department of Health as a Certified Nursing Assistant or
• Registration by North Dakota State Department of Health as a Nurse Aide or
• Those who have in the past never been licensed or certified as a Nurse Aide or Certified Nursing Assistant may obtain registration by the North Dakota State Department of Health within the first four (4) months of employment.
• Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to be approachable and flexible.
• Effectively demonstrated multi-tasking capabilities within job while maintaining a positive, professional, and customer service based attitude.

Preferred:
• Previous hospital experience in a clerical, customer service, or direct patient care area.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
