Minimum Hiring Salary/Position Classification:  $30,000 +/year, Full-Time, Benefitted, Non-Exempt

Work Schedule:   Monday-Friday, 8 am - 4:30 pm

The purpose of this position is to perform recombinant proteins purification and characterization.  The primary responsibilities will include purifying and synthesizing recombinant proteins as well as protein conjugates.  An ability to carry out protein purification without supervision or guidance is required.  The technician will also be expected to conduct experiments relevant to research projects in the lab and to maintain detailed records of all experimental procedures.  Duties include:

Design and perform experimental sequences

  • Design and perform experimental sequences involving cloning, expression and purification of recombinant proteins using protocols for bacterial and eukaryotic organisms.
  • Perform cloning, expression and purification of recombinant proteins.
  • Provide assistance with setting up experiments for other lab members.
  • Troubleshoot experiments; resolve problems by examining and evaluating data; selecting corrective steps.


Proteins purification and characterization

  • Purifying and synthesizing recombinant proteins as well as protein conjugates.
  • Carry out protein purification without supervision or guidance is required.
  • Conduct experiments relevant to research projects in the lab and to maintain detailed records of all experimental procedures.


General lab and supply maintenance

  • Perform and schedule preventative maintenance on laboratory equipment.
  • Troubleshoot breakdowns, resolve repair issues, and call for repairs.
  • Order, inventory, and stock lab supplies.
  • Organize and maintain system of cleanliness in lab including workspace and washing of lab ware. 


 Documentation of data and assistance with article preparation

  • Maintain daily logs on experimental procedures, protocols, and equipment record books.
  • Assist with article preparation.


Continuing Education

  • Participate in educational opportunities as directed by supervisor.
  • Stay current in field by reading technical publications.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Associates Degree in natural sciences, biochemistry, molecular biology
  • 1 year of laboratory experience.
  • Technical experience in all aspects of protein purification, including purification protocols for bacterial and mammalian organisms.  Comprehensive understanding of analytical techniques involving proteins, including chromatographic methods such as HPLC and electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE, Western Blots).
  • Successful completion of criminal history background check.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with automated protein purification protocols using GEs AKTA systems.
  • Experience with protein conjugation techniques, such as production, purification, characterization, HPLC method development, analytical method development and downstream process methods.
