Position Description:
North Dakota State University invites applications for a Lecturer of Animal Science. This is a 12-month, non-tenure track, undergraduate lecturer position in the Department of Animal Sciences, an academic unit of the College of Agriculture, Food Systems, and Natural Resources. The Department of Animal Sciences is seeking an individual to join the 28 members of the animal sciences faculty whose expertise and discipline interest areas encompass animal health and stewardship, genetics, livestock management, meat science, nutrition, physiology, and reproduction. The Department of Animal Sciences has the largest undergraduate student population in the college with over 400 students in three undergraduate degree majors: Animal Science, Equine Science, and Veterinary Technology. Teaching responsibilities:
• Develop and teach innovative courses related to livestock evaluation
• Teach additional courses consistent with departmental needs and the successful applicant's expertise
• Coach the NDSU Livestock Evaluation and Meat Animal Evaluation teams
• Advise undergraduate students and student organizations

Service responsibilities:
• Enhance the department's outreach mission by expanding youth engagement and providing leadership through recruitment opportunities for the department
• Participate in development opportunities that enhance personal and professional effectiveness related to the duties of the position
• Develop relationships with livestock organizations and commodity groups in the state and region
• Actively participate in fundraising efforts to support the NDSU Livestock Evaluation and Meat Animal Evaluation teams

Minimum Qualifications:
• Minimum of a M.S. degree in animal science or a related field by time of hire
• Experience teaching animal science related coursework
• Ability to effectively coach and enhance student success through livestock evaluation activities
• Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work in a diverse team atmosphere
• An appreciation for the mission of a modern Land Grant university
• Valid driver's license or the ability to obtain one

Preferred Qualifications:
• Knowledge and experience in livestock management and animal husbandry
• Demonstrated commitment to excellence in classroom instruction and capability to develop innovative, effective methods of teaching undergraduate courses
• Previous experience as livestock evaluation or meat animal evaluation coach
• Ability to reach youth audiences through creative outreach efforts
