JOB SUMMARY

Preps surgery patients and surgical environment before operations; ensures supplies and dedicated devices are sterile and ready for surgery. Conducting sterile and unsterile supplies quality assurance checks, including leak test, bowie dick test, chemical integrators, according to sterilization principles before operation. Ensuring that all decontamination equipment, including washer decontaminators, sonic, cart washers, is free of any bio burden. Performing patient preparation for surgery by washing, shaving, transporting, positioning, and ensuring aseptic incision sites. Calibrating and maintaining both sterile and non-sterile equipment for optimal performance; making minor adjustments to avoid instrument malfunctions and keeping them in operating condition.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

This 11 OR facility currently specializes in Orthopedics and Eye procedures.
This position has scheduled shifts Mon-Fri with rotating call. Call shifts will be for Orthopedic trauma at Sanford Medical Center Fargo, which is the new medical center here in Fargo. This position currently includes call for weekday, weekend and 1 holiday a year. Call is currently one weekday call every 2-3 weeks and one weekend call every 2-3 months.

QUALIFICATIONS

If working in North Dakota, must be on the North Dakota Board of Nursing Unlicensed Assistive Personnel (UAP) Registry at the time employment begins. A ND LPN License may be used in place of a ND UAP Registry. If working in MN, there are no certification, license, or registry requirements. National certification as a Surgical Technologist is preferred if working in North Dakota or Minnesota. Must be a graduate of an approved school of surgical technology. Experience in an operating room setting is required. Must have a good knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical and surgical terminology, instrumentation, aseptic techniques, and surgical procedures acquired through post-secondary training.
