Job Details

Position Description:
The primary responsibility of this positions is to develop process models to simulate the production of biobased products including chemicals, polymers, coatings, using process simulation software (e.g. Aspen, SuperPro, etc.). The goal of this research is to identify pathways for producing bio-based materials that cost-effectively reduce the environmental impacts of the chemical industry.
There will be close collaboration with other research groups who mainly focus on synthesizing novel biobased materials.
65% - Conduct research in process modelling, simulation and optimization for biorefineries.
25% - Actively engage in interdisciplinary collaborations, communicating frequently with other research groups. Provide mentoring for graduate students as needed.
10% - Publish and report research results in peer reviewed journals and at professional meetings. This position will be funded for 1 year and may be extended dependent on funding opportunities.

Minimum Qualifications:
Candidates must 1) have a PhD in chemical engineering or a related discipline from an accredited institution; 2) have a demonstrated interest in research in chemical process simulation; and 3) have strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to work both independently and as part of team and collaborate with others.

Preferred Qualifications:
Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated interest or experience in 1) techno-economic assessment, 2) data analysis and statistics, 3) biobased product research including biochemical, biopolymer and biofuel, and 4) sustainability assessment.
