Job Summary

The Accounts Payable/Receivable Associate is responsible for the accurate and timely processing and posting of Medicare related correspondence and payments. This position researches payment issues, reissues payments, and processes refunds by following regulations and standards set forth by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). The Accounts Payable/Receivable Associate addresses inquiries from both internal and external customers relating to payments and overpayments.

Essential Functions

FLSA Category: Non-Exempt

Key Duties/Responsibilities/Accountabilities
  • Performs basic analysis and accounting transactions to be able to process overpayment correspondence, refunds, and appeal requests/decisions.
  • May process cost report correspondence, which may include mail correspondence, cost report processing, tentative and final settlements, and appeals.
  • May update enrollment systems with applications processed by Provider Enrollment.
  • Pays close attention to details and strives for a high level of accuracy in all work output.
  • Applies critical thinking, analysis, and evaluation giving due consideration to the evidence, the context of judgement, relevant criteria, and nature of the problem or question at hand to make accurate and timely decisions on assigned workloads.
  • Maintains a high level of productivity and can identify the highest priority assignments in the department where workflow is extremely time-sensitive.
  • Remains objective when inconsistencies or irregularities are identified within work.
  • Adapts routine processes accordingly to achieve favorable results.
  • Builds constructive working relationships with clients/customers, other work units, and other individuals to meet mutual goals and objectives.
  • Dedicated to meeting the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers.
  • Actively collaborates with members of the team to ensure department goals and timeliness are met.
  • Provides process improvement input and design expertise to ensure departmental efficiency.

Requirements

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED
  • 1-year customer service, general office, accounting, or healthcare work experience
  • Accurate data entry
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills

Preferred Qualifications:

Above requirements and the following:
  • Effective communication skills
  • 2-year accounting or healthcare experience


Environment and Cognitive/Physical Demands
  • Office Environment
  • Ability to read, hear, speak, keyboard, reason, communicate effectively and problem solve
  • Requires prolonged sitting and telephone usage
  • Requires the use of office equipment such as computer terminals, telephones, copiers and printers
  • Infrequent lifting to 15 pounds
  • Infrequent stooping
