JOB SUMMARY

Collects and processes lab specimens and performs clinical laboratory testing, including manual and automated methods, in accordance with laboratory policies and procedures. Responsible for pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical phases of testing. Ensures all medical laboratory safety standards and quality requirements are met. Serves as a laboratory resource to other health care personnel. Must utilize critical and independent judgement in decision-making and problem-solving.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Adheres to established internal standards and procedures abstracted from Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Adheres to relevant policies and ethics for clinical laboratory testing. Collects medical specimens with strict adherence to established procedures and test requisitions. Identifies available resources and support systems for troubleshooting. Maintains current certifications in specialty and continues education when necessary. Presents a professional image, especially when dealing with customers. Promotes organizational learning through knowledge management, training and development, and sharing key experiences. Works with quality assurance methods, tools and techniques.

Sanford Medical Center Fargo (SMCF) takes care to a next level - combining expertise and compassionate patient care. The new, 284-bed, provides services including emergency/trauma, Family Birth Center, Children’s Hospital, brain and spine surgery, heart surgery, interventional cardiology and general surgery. SMCF Laboratory has an exciting job opportunity for a Medical Laboratory Scientist to work in an integrated healthcare system using state of the art technology. This position is a PRN or as needed position.

QUALIFICATIONS

Possess a national certification for Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) through an approved Health and Human Services (HHS) agency, for example American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or be registry eligible. Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) also acceptable. Registry eligible candidates must successfully complete the Board of Registry examination within 12 months of employment. If working in North Dakota (ND), must be licensed by the ND Board of Clinical Laboratory Practice. Maintain continuing education credits equivalent to the state requirements as needed for license and certifications. May be required to have Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Bachelors degree in Laboratory or Biological Sciences required.
