JOB SUMMARY

Serves as a liaison between patients, families, physicians and medical support staff in answering and directing phone calls. Will create an electronic patient file, verify patient information, provide, scan and route necessary patient forms and documents. May schedule patient appointments, arrange interpreter services, check patients in/out, offer patient enrollment to additional Sanford resources and applications. May also coordinate provider schedule, resolve work queue issues and manage recall and waitlists. May collect co-pay and/or payment on patient accounts. Displays professionalism and promotes an atmosphere of mutual respect and cooperation. Must be able to work as part of a team and also independently. Must always maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.

EXPECTED HOURS

Full-time, 40 hours a week. Monday-Friday, day hours.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Primarily responsible to provide case scheduling for all areas of surgical services and receive inbound calls from surgical providers. Provides quick, easy and appropriate access to all patient services within the surgical services area of Sanford. In addition, required to generate statistical reports and schedule printouts for the various areas. This role is also required to enter post-operative changes and perform light office work. Must be able to type, use the computer; operate the phone; practice proper telephone etiquette; demonstrate strong skills in relationship building, communication, negotiation and problem solving; creativity, flexibility, and innovation in adapting services to customer needs will be essential. Does not normally have direct patient contact. Experience with Word and Excel applications desired, but not required. Experience in a medical office or hospital/clinic setting is required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Graduate of Surgery Tech program, a 2 year RHIT degree, or a graduate of LPN preferred. A minimum of six months in-depth medical terminology experience.
