The Speech Language Pathologist is responsible for the evaluation and treatment of inpatient and outpatient pediatric to geriatric patients in compliance with licensure standards. The Speech Language Pathologist works with an interdisciplinary team to identify patient goals, barriers to discharge and ongoing speech language services. Care provided is patient centered while the Speech Language Pathologist does exercise independent judgement in planning, organizing and prioritizing workload.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Supports and models behaviors consistent with the mission, vision and values of Altru Health System.
  • Obtains and documents all required patient information including precautions, orders and patient response to treatment according to practice guidelines and standard procedures.
  • Orients patients, family and other appropriate parties to the purpose and procedures of the speech therapy evaluation and treatment.
  • Selects and performs evaluations and treatment intervention appropriate for the patient diagnosis, age, developmental level, symptoms, and referral request.
  • Coordinates treatment schedules with disciplines using appropriate scheduling procedures.
  • Utilizes a team approach in the delivery and management of services and patient care.
  • Identifies significant changes in patient's condition and takes appropriate actions.
  • Provides appropriate patient/family education and teaching according to practice guidelines.
  • Completes patient charges according to treatment provided within the required timelines and according to standard procedures.
  • Monitors program effectiveness and outcomes, initiating programs and development of new programs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
Required:

  • Master's Degree in Speech/Language Pathology.
  • Licensed by the North Dakota State Board of Examiners on Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology.
    • Licensed by the state of Minnesota prior to providing services in the state.
  • Certified by the American Speech Hearing Association (AHSA) with CCC-Sp
    • Or CFY with a qualified Speech/Language Pathology clinical supervisor and will obtain AHSA CCC-Sp within three (3) years from date of hire.
  • Successful completion of the functional assessment.
