Job Summary

The Patient Safety Analyst is responsible for coordinating patient safety processes related to evidence-based (best) practice, Joint Commission patient safety standards, Patient Safety Indicators (PSI's) and Hospital Acquired Conditions (HAC's). The Patient Safety Analyst analyzes data and trends patient safety reporting. The Patient Safety Analyst provides feedback to Altru leaders and team members, assisting them in identifying and implementing corrections in areas of improvement for patient safety, working along with the Patient Safety Coordinator to coordinate and facilitate safety issues and the process of a root cause analysis (RCA) for safety events in collaboration with management and staff from the involved departments.

Essential Job Functions

Participates in patient safety and Joint Commission unannounced rounds and in conjunction with Patient Safety and patient and system tracers. Communicates findings to front line leaders, assisting with the removal of barriers.

Oversees the development and implementation of action plans. Identifies and recommends educational programs/materials to enhance medical and non-medical staff patient safety standards.

Facilitates and coordinates Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA) for the organization. Develops and maintains work plans and timelines so work is completed as expected. Communicates project progress and outcomes as appropriate.

Analyzes, trends, disseminates, and presents system outcomes data using statistical tools. Develops reports and dashboards that leverage strong visualizations and presentations to enable senior management and stakeholder team's comprehension of initiative impact results.

Coordinates, facilitates, and analyzes safety issues and the process of a root cause analyses (RCA) for safety events in collaboration with the Patient Safety Coordinator and/or management staff. Provides facilitation and support of RCAs to include writing corrective action plans.

Participates in the Altru Health System committees to ensure updates and revisions are consistent with patient safety requirements.

Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.

  • Demonstrates understanding and follows infection control policies and procedures according to standard operating procedure.

  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of and compliance with:
    • All pertinent safety, health and environmental policies, procedures and guidelines.
    • Working safely, without causing harm or risk to self, others or property.
    • The work environment safety procedures and prompt reporting of unsafe practices, procedures, accidents, injuries or other safety violations to the Leader.
    • The use of all safety equipment and personal protective equipment.
