The University of North Dakota (UND), Department of English seeks to hire a non-tenure track, special appointment Instructor starting August 16, 2018.

Position Description, Duties, & Responsibilities
The Department of English seeks to hire an Instructor to teach first-year writing, specifically, 4 sections of Composition I and/or Composition II each semester in the 2018-19 academic year. The successful candidate will have the ability to teach the following courses offered by UND's Composition Program: English 110 (an introduction to academic writing, reading, and critical thinking) and English 130 (a research writing course that highlights audience and purpose as students write for public audiences).  The successful canddiate will be engaged in undergraduate education, interested in professional growth and development, and possess strong communication skills.

Minimum Requirements: 

  • Master's Degree in English by time of appointment
  • Recent experience teaching College Composition
  • Evidence of effective teaching and engagement with student learning
  • Demonstrated understanding of rhetorical approaches to the teaching writing/composition courses
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in class management and ability to work within program goals

 

Preferred Skills/Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching composition using complex academic readings
  • Experience teaching academic research writing


Competencies

  • Knowledge of recent trends in the teaching of Composition
  • Strong Communication Skills
