The incumbent is responsible to work independently as well as collaboratively with other staff in the UMD Information Technology Systems and Services Department (ITSS) and other campus academic and administrative units on multiple activities relating to application development support. This position will be responsible for:

*Application and Web Programming Development and Support - Develop and support information systems, programs, and applications that includes programming, analysis, installation, integration, and maintenance of application programs. Develop code from specifications and enhance/customize existing or purchased programs through code for University academic and administrative programs using appropriate design/development tools, applications and content management systems. Support both in-house developed and vendor-supplied applications (e.g. database and web hosting applications),
*Data Management- Consult with clients developing data and database needs; build, implement, and maintain databases.
*Business Systems Analysis - Work with clients to understand and define needs, develop and recommend solutions, and plan for implementation and integration of solutions into the current business processes or systems design. Collect and define client business requirements, gather information on the technology plans of the department/unit, and perform analysis on business processes to identify improvements.
*General Technical Support - Provide general technical support and perform other work-related duties as assigned.
*Staff Development - Participate on process teams and in professional development activities. Promote a non-discriminatory environment. Keep current with University of Minnesota policies and guidelines.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
*BA/BS degree required. Two years of work experience in the areas of application/web/systems development with a related BA/BS degree. Four years of work experience in the areas of application/web/systems development with a non-related BA/BS degree.
*Experience and programming abilities with web application development languages.
*Experience working with SQL, relational database modeling and design.
*Experience with business and technical requirements analysis.
*Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively in teams.
*Demonstrated ability to work with and build consensus with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
*Experience developing in an Agile environment.
*Experience in programming languages such as PHP, Ruby, Perl, Python, or Javascript.
*Experience developing in a web application framework such as Laravel, Rails, or Django.
*Experience with Git or other version control environments.
*Familiarity with Unix systems and system programming.
*Excellent listening and communication skills.
*Demonstrated problem-solving and decision-making abilities with keen attention to detail.
*Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize, and accomplish tasks accurately while working with minimal supervision.
*Demonstrated ability to learn, understand, and apply new technologies.
*Ability to read, write, analyze, and interpret technical documentation.
*Previous experience in higher education.
