Position Description:
The successful candidate will be expected to lead a nationally recognized Extension program in farm management. The program will focus on the economics of crop and livestock production systems, enterprise analysis to include publishing crop and livestock budgets, analysis of federal farm programs and crop insurance, evaluating the economics of new/emerging agricultural technologies and responding to farm management questions. Responsibilities include developing and delivering innovative Extension programs that enhance the knowledge and decision making of farm/ranch managers, agricultural lenders and agribusiness leaders regarding farm management issues. The successful candidate is also expected to lead farm bill education and analysis.

The primary clientele will be farm/ranch managers, Extension agents, agricultural lenders, agribusinesses, industry organizations, and state and federal government agencies. Collaboration with Extension agents, other Agribusiness and Applied Economics faculty, colleagues in other related disciplines and professional colleagues at regional and national levels is necessary. Applied research that supports the Extension program is expected. A successful specialist will generate extramural funding to augment Extension programming.

The successful candidate reports to the Department Chair for evaluations.

Minimum Qualifications:
1. An earned Masters Degree in Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness, Production Economics or related field;
2. Excellent oral and written communication skills and essential information technology skills;
3. Academic training and/or experience in agriculture, farm management and/or agribusiness;
4. Familiarity with Extension programming;
5. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and in a team environment;

Preferred Qualifications:
1. Evidence of effective Extension programming and/or applied research;
2. Familiarity with Northern Plains agriculture;
3. Experience in farm/ranch or agribusiness management or agricultural finance;
4. Demonstrated ability to secure and administer external funds;
5. Successful publication of Extension and/or research results;
6. Experience in developing and delivering educational programs, including video conferencing, audio/video web streaming or podcasting;
7. A valid driver's license or ability to obtain one.
