JOB SUMMARY

Professionally handles customer requests ensuring the issues are resolved both promptly and thoroughly. Responsible for answering incoming phone calls and face to face interactions with both internal and external customers to Sanford. Must be able to accurately and efficiently access and gather information and fulfill customer needs. Expected to educate the customer where applicable either to help with or prevent the need for future contacts. Performs certain functions of release of information in order to meet and satisfy customer demands. Fulfills and delivers records in requested media following established turnaround times. Maintains integrity and confidentiality standards of the medical record. Adheres to confidentiality of patient information. May be required to relay updates regarding medical record completion of suspended physicians immediately when applicable. May scan required documents into the patient medical record. Must be able to communicate clearly and professionally both verbally and in writing. Works in a stressful environment with high customer demands. Excellent oral communication skills and ability to meet the public in a professional manner. Accuracy in number and name recognition. Must be able to interact with people, and work with frequent interruptions. Ability to multitask and handle priority situations. Work is extremely detailed and requires a high level of accuracy.Individual will work extensively with protected health information and is required to adhere to HIPAA privacy and security regulations and policies related to same.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

The main focus of this position is customer service - both on with phone calls from customers/patients as well as helping our patients who present to our department requesting their medical records. Job duties will include working in our ROI Module in our EMR, processing of requests, and distribution of completed requests to get them properly packaged up and in the mail. Additional duties will be monitoring and sending out notification of fax failures that are sent through our EMR and sorting and entering our mail into the EMR.

QUALIFICATIONS

Associate degree in Health Information Technology or other healthcare field preferred. Prior work experience in HIM Department related to record maintenance completion or release of information preferred.
