Job Details
In the absence of the Director of Nursing Services and Clinical Directors,
provides leadership and direction to Nursing Service and administrative support to other hospital
departments on all night shifts, including weekends and holidays.
• JOB RELATIONSHIPS:
A. REPORTS TO: Director of Acute Care Services/Care Management
B. SUPERVISES: NST's, Float Pool Staff; Nursing staff on scheduled shift.
C. INTERRELATIONSHIPS WITH: Ancillary department staff in absence of hospital
Administration.
• HOURS OF WORK: Night shifts, Monday through Sunday; day shifts on weekends and/or
holidays.
• DRESS CODE: Appropriate attire.
• ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS OF WORK (Minimum qualifications necessary to function at
full productivity).
Administrative Nursing Supervisor 7251
A. EDUCATION AND TRAINING: Currently licensed to practice nursing in the state of
Minnesota. Three or more years of successful nursing practice as a registered nurse.
BSN/BAN preferred. Management experience preferred.
B. EXPERIENCE: Has demonstrated progressive competence in areas of organization,
leadership, clinical practice, supervision, teaching, and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrates the ability to function and provide direction in stressful situations.
C. JOB KNOWLEDGE (Specific): Comprehensive clinical nursing knowledge, personnel
management and crisis management.
A knowledge of growth and development; specifically an understanding of the cognitive,
physical, emotional, and chronological maturation process. An understanding of the
range of treatment needed by patients of all ages in relation to the growth and
development processes to include neonate, child, adolescent, adult and geriatric
patients.

• PRINCIPAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES, TASKS, AND AUTHORITIES:
A. RESPONSIBILITY: Management of Nursing personnel

TASKS:
1. Provides leadership and direction in accordance with organizational and
departmental goals and objectives.
2. Provides for the professional growth and development of the nursing staff
through an assessment of needs and appropriate actions (teaching, providing
for clinical exposure, facilitating educational programs).
3. Counsels employees when necessary initiating commendation and disciplinary
actions as indicated.
4. Conducts regular performance evaluations for permanent Float Pool staff,
Administrative Nursing Supervisor 7251
including nurses, NUA's and NST's.
5. Performs staffing functions in accordance with departmental policy and
procedures.
6. Maintains effective communications with Director of Acute Care Services and
other Directors as well as Scheduling staff
7. Float Pool and NST staffing.
a. Schedules orientation for new Float Pool and NST staff.
b. Selects and hires appropriate staff for Nursing Float Pool and NST
group.
8. Maintains records of Float Pool and NST staff meetings, mandatory compliance
of licensure, training, education, etc.

1). Facilitating acceptance of the patient's report of pain.
2). Facilitating relief of the physical and psycho social symptoms
associated with pain while optimizing individual and family
functioning.
3) Facilitating promotion of active participation by patients and their
families in selecting pain management strategies and in

5. Communicates with patients, significant others, and members of the health care
team for the purpose of facilitating the delivery of care.
