Summary:
Responsible for promoting a resident directed approach that will ensure the residents live the life they prefer. The primary focus of this position is creating programming that enhances the quality of life of the residents. Quality of life focuses on resident preferences in areas including; privacy, dignity, meaningful activity, food enjoyment, autonomy, individuality and relationships.
Reports to:
Housing Administrator
Scope:
Work and communicate closely with residents, staff, family members, volunteers and community groups. Work collaboratively with contacted activity staff and may provide work direction to care attendants and homemakers. May need to attend and/or facilitate activities and projects off site. May be responsible for arranging transportation or driving a facility-owned vehicle.
Requirements:
• Required to have the ability to read, write and speak English well enough to communicate with staff, residents and visitors. Must complete and pass a state required background study.
• Requires a high school diploma and three to five years experience working in a recreational setting in older adult services or any equivalent combination of training, education and experience. Educational experience in social work, recreational therapy or gerontology preferred. A valid drivers license is required. Leadership, organizational and time management skills are required. Requires an ability to work with residents whose individual interests, abilities and personalities vary greatly. Strong computer skills are required and must be comfortable learning and working with new technology. Strong interpersonal and relationship skills, problem solving skills, critical thinking. Demonstrated adaptability, flexibility, and creativity. Ability to initiate change and motivate staff.
