JOB SUMMARY

Provides professional tax-related accounting expertise by integrating Internal Revenue Service regulatory guidelines, local and state tax regulations, and organizational objectives. Gathers and prepares tax-related documents to meet all tax requirements for Sanford. Completes tax account entries for financial statements on a monthly basis. Calculates and enters the month-end and year-end financial entries. Researches and drafts communications on tax law changes, as well as any operational changes where there is a tax impact. Prepares annual filing of all federal and state tax compliance (990, state charitable organization reporting, 1120 etc.), as well as compliance for indirect taxes (real estate taxes, sales tax, MinnesotaCare, employee benefits taxes, excise taxes etc.) and all other tax-related activities. Facilitates all tax-related governmental tax
audits and reporting. Documents all processes and maintains record retention. Participates in merger and acquisition pro forma calculations. Calculates tax implications for divestitures.
Routinely collaborates and coordinates with finance teams, operations, and support service areas to provide enterprise-wide tax accounting. Collaborates with colleagues within the accounting department as well as cross-functional areas to assure the integrity of financial information. Understands relationships between all subsidiaries. Understands organizational capabilities and interdependencies across all departments. Identifies areas for improvement and proactively addresses problems within scope of responsibility, while escalating issues to leadership as needed. Regularly makes recommendations for new processes; modifies existing tools, techniques, and processes with approval from leadership. Supports the development and implementation of new processes or techniques. Helps to streamline operations. Serves as a resource for leadership and staff on tax-related accounting. Acts as a subject matter expert and keeps current on emerging professional issues and legislation that impact tax accounting practices. May serve as a project leader.
Must have excellent communication skills and problem-solving skills. Must have solid understanding of Internal Revenue Service regulations, and multi-state and local tax regulations, with a foundation in generally accepted accounting principles. Must be able to organize and prioritize tasks effectively. Must demonstrate accuracy and attention to detail. Must demonstrate initiative and be able to maintain a high level of energy. Requires a professional commitment to continuous learning and development. Represents organization in governmental tax audits. Must be knowledgeable of legislature that changes tax regulations.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Works with applying tax law to a specific industry or line of business.
Follows tax accounting practices and explains the rationale behind these practices.
Review financial records such as income statements and documentation of expenditures to determine forms needed to prepare tax returns. Evaluates issues and considerations in integrating tax information across lines of business.
Collects and prepares documentation for tax filing or tax defense activities.
Sort or classify information according to guidelines, such as content, purpose, user criteria, or chronological, alphabetical, or numerical order.
Produces written materials in business- and industry-specific technical language.
Analyzes the interests or requirements of the audience; shares only relevant information in a direct and efficient manner.
Assures accuracy using basic validation and cross-checking techniques.
Resolves common financial problems with risk assessment techniques.
Identifies and documents specific problems and resolution alternatives.
Makes recommendations for the enhancement of certain internal controls.

DEPARTMENT DETAILS

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or other Business-related degree with an Accounting minor required. Accounting degree is preferred. Must have at least two years of related work experience, preferably in a healthcare environment. Must demonstrate advanced proficiency in Excel (e.g., v-lookup, pivot tables, etc.). Strong tax research skills and familiarization with ProSystem is a plus. Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA) or other professional certification is desirable but not required.
