Minimum Qualifications:
Technical education in mechanical (refrigeration) maintenance totaling two years and three years of applicable work experience. Must have Refrigerant Recovery and Recycling Equipment Certification - EPA. Ability to maintain and repair heating and cooling pumps. Ability to follow written and oral instructions. Must have a valid driver's license. Ability to meet physical requirements of this position. Positions may require the ability to walk or stand for majority of day; bend, climb, reach, kneel; carry, lift, push and pull SO lbs. or more.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with maintenance and operations of District Cooling Systems, including Trane and York chillers. Operating experience with commercial ice plants. Experience with ultra-low temperature freezers and coolers.

About the Job:
Positions allocated to this classification are primarily responsible for providing repair work to building systems and other related equipment. This classification specification will not specifically identify every eventuality or combination of duties and responsibilities of positions that currently exist, or those that result from changing program emphasis or organizational structures in the future.

Duties:

  • The primary responsibility for the Mechanic II is to perform complex refrigeration, maintenance, repair work with building systems and related equipment. A major component of this position will be maintenance for large-scale buildings, which includes ability to maintain and repair heating and cooling pumps, and inspecting, servicing and repairing all types of refrigeration equipment.
  • Performs tasks and duties of Mechanic I classification. Position will perform repairs of cooling systems. Performs preventative maintenance on refrigeration equipment as determined by Facilities Management.
  • Operates/troubleshoots building equipment/systems utilizing computerized equipment monitoring and automation systems.
  • Receives and responds to service calls.
