Job Details

The Occupational Therapist is responsible for the evaluation and treatment of inpatient hospital and inpatient rehab hospital patients in compliance with licensure standards. The Occupational Therapist works with an interdisciplinary team contributing to patient goal development care planning and identifying barriers to discharge. Care provided is patient centered while the Occupational Therapist does exercise independent judgement in planning, organizing and prioritizing workload.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Supports and models behaviors consistent with the mission, vision and values of Altru Health System.
  • Performs pain assessment and takes appropriate action according to standard operating procedure.
  • Orients referred patients, family and/or other appropriate parties to the purpose and procedures of the Occupational Therapy and facilitates family and patient involvement in the development of the treatment plan.
  • Accurately obtains and documents all required and pertinent information, including precautions and orders within established time frames.
  • Selects evaluation and treatment methods which correlate to the patient's diagnosis, symptoms, and physician orders.
  • Identifies significant changes in patient's medical condition and intervenes at signs of fatigue, frustration and agitation and takes appropriate actions, as evidenced in reporting, staffing consultations and documentation.
  • Participates with internal/external multidisciplinary team members in the development and accurate documentation of a discharge plan, according to the practice guides and procedures.
  • Accurately processes treatment orders and patient's charges.
  • Makes referral/recommendations for further services to assure that the continuum of care is addressed and appropriate.
  • Coordinates treatment schedules (physician, families and outside agencies) using appropriate scheduling procedures to optimize patient treatment outcomes.
  • Provides appropriate patient education, family teaching and support appropriate to identified patient and family needs.
  • Monitors program effectiveness, initiating programs and development of new programs.
  • Completes competencies of the pain management program according to pre-determined guidelines.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
Required:
  • Occupational Therapist licensed by the North Dakota State Board of Occupational Therapy Practice.
  • Certified by NBCOT within six (6) months of hire date.
  • Driver's License.
  • Successful completion of the functional assessment.
