    • JOB SUMMARY
      • Under the direction of the Manager, Central Billing Office (CBO), the Patient Billing Specialist III is responsible for the development of processes for provider based billing between Hospital and Clinic software, for managing claims and charges across practices by accurately following provider based billing rules established by CMS, and for communicating effectively between medical records, Hospital billing, Clinic billing, and the CBO staff.
    • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
      • Education: Successful completion of post high school vocational or technical school program in medical office administration and/or medical billing or see experience.
      • Experience: Three (3) years of experience in a medical billing office to include at least two (2) years of experience with medical insurance billing, coding, and denial management.
      • Licensure/Certification/Registration: ICD-10 proficiency certification through AAPC or AHIMA within eighteen (18) months of hire.

      • Licensure/Certification/Registration: Certified Professional Coder or Certified Professional Coding Specialist.
    • KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
      • Knowledge of health insurance, current ICD coding guidelines and CPT guidelines for medical billing, payer billing rules, policies and applications, insurance billing, basic communication skills, computerized office applications, customer relations principles and telephone answering. Ability to prioritize and complete tasks in a timely manner with attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to do straight copy typing and perform accurate computer keyboard entry. Ability to establish and maintain empathic, respectful and positive customer relations behaviors and to effectively communicate with staff and customers both in telephone and in person. Ability to discuss and mentor staff on payer policies and applications. Ability to perform billing software applications including registration, charge entry, and financial applications. Ability to work well with people. Ability to write legibly, see, hear, read, and speak English.
      • READING - Intermediate: Ability to read and interpret documents such as operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
      • WRITING - Intermediate: Ability to write routine reports, correspondence, or procedures.
      • SPEAKING - Intermediate: Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one, small group situations or before groups of customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
      • MATHEMATICAL SKILLS - Basic Skills: Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
      • REASONING ABILITY - Intermediate Skills: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
