Job Details
Under the supervision of the RN, the PCA performs various duties assisting staff nurses in the treatment and care of patients in accordance with the established methods and procedures of the hospital and will perform receptionist secretarial support duties while maintaining confidentiality of patient information.
• JOB RELATIONSHIPS:
A. REPORTS TO: Assistant Director, Program Coordinator or designee
B. SUPERVISES: None
C. INTERRELATIONSHIPS WITH: All nursing staff, all ancillary and clerical departments, Physicians, patients and families.
• HOURS OF WORK: Variable
• DRESS CODE: Per unit dress code
• ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS OF WORK (Minimum qualifications necessary to function at full productivity).
A. EDUCATION AND TRAINING: High school graduate or equivalent work experience including ability to read, write, and comprehend medical terminology. Medical Secretary training course preferred. Current certification as a Nursing Assistant.
B. EXPERIENCE: Previous ward clerk or nursing assistant experience or satisfactory completion of Medical Secretary training program preferred.
C. JOB KNOWLEDGE (Specific): Working knowledge of medical terminology, transcription process, hospital operations, telephone etiquette, personal care activities, transfer techniques.
A knowledge of growth and development; specifically an understanding of the cognitive, physical, emotional and chronological maturation process. An understanding of the range of treatment needed by patients of all ages in relation to the growth and development processes to include neonate, child, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.

• CLIENTELE DIRECTLY AFFECTED BY JOB: Patients and families, unit staff, ancillary departments, physicians, public.
• PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF THE JOB:
A. Telephone use is constant with the individual either holding the telephone in one hand and writing with the dominant hand. Making phone calls while writing
B. Computer use is required for order entry C. Moving around the unit - to obtain and return charts, locating individuals, and to
restock supplies D. Use of office equipment for faxing, photocopying, putting information into and
removing information from charts E. Sitting is a part of this position when doing order entry, answering telephones,
responding to patient and visitors needs F.
