Residential Counselors are involved in daily activities with adolescence from a variety of ethnic and cultural backgrounds.  Many of our youth deal with mental health, chemical dependency, homelessness, or a variety of family concerns.  Some clients come to us through Social Services seeking some sort of stabilization, while others come through the Corrections system on a consequence.  All of the youth at Harbor Shelter are in need of the stable, secure, and structured environment they are provided with through program expectations and group milieu.  Shelter clients have staff members who are available to listen, hold clients accountable, as well as generating a tone of optimism, hope and warmth.

Duties include but are not limited to: client intakes and discharges, facilitating group process, preparing meals, case management, teaching life skills to disadvantaged teens, and supervision of and involvement with clients during recreational activities.
