Harbor Shelter is seeking full time Residential Counselor. Must be at least 21 and have a 2 year college degree but prefer a 4 year degree in any of the behavioral sciences (Criminal Justice, Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, etc.) or related field. 

The mission of Harbor Shelter is to provide basic physical needs, counseling, and protection for adolescents through a safe, secure, and structured environment. The program promotes a sense of pride, self-control, and hope for adolescents to develop a better understanding of themselves. It is our vision to enable clients to move forward with their lives confidently and productively.  The shelter, located in Hastings, has played a large role in the surrounding counties – serving about 400 clients per year.

Clients may be accepted from anywhere in the State of Minnesota. Service is provided to males and females between the ages of 12 through 17 at our facility.   It is the policy of Harbor Shelter that clients will not be prohibited from receiving service or discriminated against in any way on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, income or marital status.

Residential Counselors are involved in daily activities with adolescence from a variety of ethnic and cultural backgrounds.  Many of our youth deal with mental health, chemical dependency, homelessness, or a variety of family concerns.  Some clients come to us through Social Services seeking some sort of stabilization, while others come through the Corrections system on a consequence.  All of the youth at Harbor Shelter are in need of the stable, secure, and structured environment they are provided with through program expectations and group milieu.  Shelter clients have staff members who are available to listen, hold clients accountable, as well as generating a tone of optimism, hope and warmth.

Duties include but are not limited to: client intakes and discharges, facilitating group process, preparing meals, case management, teaching life skills to disadvantaged teens, and supervision of and involvement with clients during recreational activities.

Must be available to work evenings and weekends. Rotating schedule (4 days on followed by 2 days off).  Harbor Shelter is open 24 hours a day 365 days a year. Starting pay is $13.50/hr plus benefits. Potential candidates will be required to complete a background study through the state of Minnesota as well as pass a driving background study.  If interested, please send reply with resume.
