Salary/Position Classification:  $40,000 plus/Annual (salary is negotiable based on qualifications and experience).  This is a full-time, benefited, exempt position.
Benefits: Includes single or family health care coverage (premiums paid for by the university), basic life insurance, EAP, retirement plan, tuition waiver, annual and sick leave.  Optional benefits available: supplemental life, dental, vision, long term care insurance, flexible spending account, supplemental retirement plans. 
Work Schedule:  Monday - Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm   Working from home or remotely is not an available option for this position. Occasional travel will be required.

The Center for Rural Health (CRH) at the University of North Dakota is seeking an experienced and talented individual interested in serving as an Accounting & Grants Specialist.  This position provides accounting and grant support on a center-wide basis, and exists primarily to support departmental business and fiscal operations.  CRH is a department located within the School of Medicine & Health Sciences.
 

  • The position will be responsible for providing accounting and business-related support.  Preparing and maintaining financial paperwork, records, reports, and spreadsheets.  Reviewing and approving expenditures, monitoring balances.  Auditing transactions, monitoring for errors, and resolving discrepancies.  Monitoring for compliance to UND and grant policy and procedures.  Training administrative support and faculty/staff in the correct use of on-line tools and associated paperwork.
  • Coordination of departmental payroll activities for large department with multiple funding sources.  Monitoring deadlines, maintaining accurate payrolls, and updating payroll database.  Processing new employee hires.  The position coordinates departmental student hiring, paperwork, and timecards.
  • Provides proposal development and grant financial administration support to faculty and staff related to business functions, planning, development, and maintenance of grant awards.  Assists Principal Investigators (PIs) in monitoring of their grant budgets, reviews and approves grant expenditures.  Assists PIs in preparation of grant proposal budgets and budget narratives.  Generates subaward documentation, monitors, and processes payments.  
  • Provides support for Center for Rural Health business activities to include contract development, tracking, and payment review/approval.  Provides planning assistance during annual departmental budget process; including data entry in budget module.

  • Ability to travel to occasional meeting or conference (national, regional, or local).

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's degree.  Major field of study or degree emphasis in business, accounting, or related field.  Will consider other degrees with relevant work experience.  OR two years of college and three years of directly related work experience. Two years of work experience in financial or business support role; such as bookkeeping, accounting, finance, payroll support or similar.  Higher education experience a plus. Experience using Microsoft Office Suite, in particular MS Word, Excel, and Outlook. Applicants are required to provide a short statement in cover letter that establishes individual’s specialized knowledge of business processes. Successful completion of criminal history background check.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience using accounting/bookkeeping software (or on-line applications/systems)
  • Experience working with grants or project financial administration.
  • Experience with PeopleSoft Human Resources Management System and PeopleSoft Finance.
  • Experience with Perceptive Content or similar accounts payable system.
  • Experience with payroll mangement.
  • Experience with Microsoft Access software or similar database software.
  • Contract management experience.
  • Experience with UND policies and procedures.
  • Experience with UND annual budget process.
