American Crystal is looking for a self-motivated individual to join our team as a Budget/Cost Analyst at our Corporate Office.The Budget/Cost Analyst provides leadership in the development, implementation and management of the company cost accounting and budgeting systems. Responsibilities will also consist of the development of costing models to ensure accuracy and timeliness of information to help the management team monitor and control their financial responsibilities.

The principal accountabilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Manages American Crystal Sugar's cost accounting function and budgeting system including the configuration, administration and integration with SAP financial models for reporting and analysis to identify changes in the financial position of the company for beet payment projections to the shareholders.
  • Analyzes and manages the consolidation of the entire factory operations to ensure accuracy and accounting consistency. Administers the costing system including maintenance of the configuration of product costing and cost center accounting, integration with other modules and implementation of future upgrades to ensure accurate cost accounting information is available for analysis and decision.
  • Provides expertise, technical support and training to management in the creation, maintenance and interpretation of budgetary, cost analysis and reporting activities by developing and maintaining accurate and relevant costing information for management to make sound business decisions.
  • Collaborates with management in all areas of the company and business partners to consolidate budgetary and costing data for beet payment projections and various cost analysis related to company initiatives.
  • Assures that proper internal controls and guidelines are established once company directives are initiated related to cost management for accounting consistency and member and non-member business activities and related impact on shareholder returns.
  • Works closely with Factory Accounting Manager to shape solutions to problems that arise by utilizing established policies and precedents as guidelines in formulating solutions. It is the incumbent's responsibility to analyze and clearly define problems.
  • Develops standard benefit rates for all categories of employees through a partnership with human resources and outside business contacts by analyzing trends in benefit costs.
  • Directs the budgetary activities for the company's operating plans, forecasts and monthly updates and consolidates information into management and Board of Directors presentations.
  • Ensures that the operating plan and interim forecasts for the company are organized, well documented and analyzed to provide management with timely and accurate beet payment projections and subsequent cost bridges between forecasts and historical actual costs as required.


Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting and/or Finance
  • Three to five years of related work experience
  • Knowledge of financial and cost accounting principles a must
  • Well developed human relations skills
  • Excellent organization and communications skills are required
  • An overall understanding of company business operations
  • knowledge and experience in SAP business processes is preferred
