Outdoors Reporter

Forum News Service is hiring a full-time Outdoors Reporter to produce premium original outdoors content that can be displayed across all media distribution platforms. This will include video, visual still images, graphics and text, and must be content that engages the target audience. The location for this position is flexible. Primary responsibilities include:

• Must be extremely knowledgeable of hunting/fishing/shooting tactics beyond the common level of the everyday hunter and must possess the ability to accurately display the tactic.
• Must be familiar with the majority of brands, manufacturers, and personalities in outdoor industries.
• Receive assignments and develop original ideas into relevant and well-written feature and enterprise stories through research, interviews and reader engagement.
• Work independently to identify storytelling opportunities and planning coverage with the company’s other outdoors produces to develop a mix of daily and enterprise outdoor reporting suitable for multiple platforms.
• Develop, nurture and maintain network of sources with primary focus on the outdoors across the Upper Midwest, emphasizing Minnesota and North Dakota, with a particular emphasis on impact to audience for several websites.
• Strong photography skills and willingness to produce video stories.
• Must be able to meet necessary deadlines.
• Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education in journalism.
• Strong organizational, time management and people skills are essential.
• Flexibility is required. Ability to write with confidence on multiple topics.
• Ability to work on deadline, handle sensitive and emotional situations, balance competing demands, set priorities and juggle several issues at once.
• Digital skills, particularly ability to produce video, a plus.
• Accuracy and ability to produce clean, crisp content in multiple formats.
• Must have a valid driver’s license with a driving record that is insurable by the company.
• Work hours and travel may include nights, weekends and holidays, as needed.
